My advice is to stay home. You were saying earlier that you were still suffering problems from Vietnam. I believe this will only aggrevate the issues. Plus, the money may be good, but if the sh*t hits the fan, how far away will the cavalry be? Will those civilian guards have access to heavy machine guns, grenade launchers or have close air support on call? I doubt it. The money is good for a reason. What good will the money be if, when you get home you find your wife gone.

Do you really need the money that badly? You've done your bit, stay home and enjoy life. If on the other hand you really do need the money, won't miss your wife or just plain need a thrill then forget everything I've said and go for it.

IMOHO,
Unless your doing it for some sort of patriotic reason, I't's not worth any amount of money to go there.

Especially when it comes to family.

Sounds like you want to go though. if ya do, God Speed.

7mm I would sit down and really look at it is a job worth risking your marriage? Yes I am sure the money is good - but I have seen those pictures you have posted and you seem to have a close family

If you choose haliburton just be safe and carry a big gun

I'd go there in a heartbeat, but no qualifications. We got three drivers that quit and went there pulling in big bucks.

nope, being a merc aint against the law...unless you take part in any actions on behalf of a foreign country against the U.S. . i had a couple friends of mine that did it for a while in south america after we got out of the army.

I'd rather make a few bucks less and stay in the U.S. with my family. Its just too much of a risk over there right now.

I've known 3 people that have gone overseas to work in hostile countries. One was lucky and made enough to retire, one was forced to go back to work here because he didnt make as much as he thought he would and the other was killed on the last day of the job. Those arent very good odds.

7Mmag6...The last I heard, Haliburton was being investigated by the U.S. govt. for pending charges of overcharging for their work/supplies, or something else. I'm not exactly sure what the charges were, but I believe it had to do with the accusation that Haliburton was given improper bidding advantages by Secretary of Defense Rumsfield for providing fuel to U.S. military vehicles in Iraq. It is my understanding that Rumsfeld was a former CEO of Haliburton.

Maybe someone on G&G can straighten out what those charges were all about...and whether or not any charges are still pending.

Putting those pending charges aside, if any still exist, and the highly unliklihood that Haliburton could be removed from supplying fuel for our overseas vehicles, only you know your total situation regarding whether to work for them and head to Iraq...or not. I wouldn't want to make any comment on that subject because that's personal decision which only you and your family have to live with regardless of the consequences.

Best of luck with your decision, and I'll support you whatever you decide.

Thanks for the correct story about Halliburton, Logansdad. Basically, from what I've read in the link you provided, it was Dick Cheney, rather than Rumsfield, who was a former employee of that company, and the products/services provided by Halliburton were not fuel, but other kinds of military needs in Kuwait and Turkey.

Regardless, the accusations created a cloud of scandal over Halliburton and Chaney by those making the accusations.

This scandal could have been caused by companies who were unsuccesful in getting contracts for those products/services which were awarded to Halliburton. That could be an example of "sour grapes" on a grand scale.

if you think it will cost you your wife, think long and hard about it. after just loosing mine a lil less than a year ago now i can tell you the pain doesn't go away any time to soon, as for the job if you don't go send them my email, i'd be happy to go nothing holding me here and the military kicked me out on a med along time ago.
likly be the only way i could get there before all the fun is over.
all kiding aside, talk it out with your wife and then take a long hard look inside your self and see if this is the kinda crap you want to get back into.

Question

I saw in the paper how they were holding a hero's funeral for a dead contractoer that worked over there for those big bucks,I figured if they wanted to call him a hero it was their business, but personally I figure if one wants to work there for the the big bucks he is not a hero but willing to risk anything for a buck.
To call someone like that a hero is,to me,deminishing the real heros.

It aint going to happen bros, first off the recruiter called me and told me I was in the running, not exactly a job offer, but the recruiter was nice and said I was one of the top candidates, I could probably do it, I think they are getting panicked, my wife wants me poor and ragged and not dead, so Ill just keep on getting along, keep sacking groceries,
