After noticing it sweating at the range, i took a hair dryer to my 91/30. It worked but man was it a pain in the you know what because the air only hit a small portion of the gun. Works great if you aim it down the barrel from the breech. Dripped something wicked out the muzzle.

Nah...The flouridated water was to turn the country into liberals. That's why city folks are liberal; they're more likely to have been exposed to it...

I have started taking surplus guns apart and "cooking" them on an old gas grill to heat the cosmo out. works well then you can sand down the stock and refinsh it.

The cosmoline is a international Communist conspiricy to Sap and impurify our precious Bodily fluids.
our nations purity of essence is at stake, we must manage our exposure to communist cosmoline. only those that have allready been exposed should be cleared to continue their exposure. I think the Government should provide us fully addicted folks with mosinitise with biweekly new Mosin Nagant Rifles
just like methadone

I have a lot of surplus and WWII guns, they all came with cosmoline on them and i used the oven cleaner method on the M44 and there is no more cosmoline on the stock i just dont think i put it in the oven we justwashed the cleaner off with something, it also lightens the stock color by doing this

My first milsurp was an SKS that was coated in a layer of the stuff so thick, you almost needed a comealong to open the bolt. I got off what I could with mineral spirits and rags to the point I could detail-strip the rifle. When I had the piece apart, I used mineral spirits to deal with the metal, but at the suggestion of the friends I was staying with, we tried wrapping the stock and the handguard in aluminum foil and 'roasting' it on their gas grill. An hour of this, including changing the foil once, got almost all the cosmoline out of the wood.

You could probably do this gas grill trick with the Mosin carbines, but the Model 1891s, ex-dragoons and Model 91/30s are too long for this to work. You would probably be better off with the E-z-Bake Cosmoline Oven built around some pipe and an electric light bulb for those. There's a thread about it in the Mosin Forum somewhere in March 2010.

Oh, Cosmoline, why can't you be true? Oh, Cosmoline, why can't you be true?
You done started back doing the things you used to do,

As I was motivatin' over the hill, I saw Cosmoline in a Mosin Finn,
91/30 rollin' on the open road, nothin' outrun my M39,
M44 doin' 'bout 95, M38, rollin' side by side,
