part of the myth is the discarding sabot..a plastic sabot may insulate the projectile enough to make it a viable possibility :assult:

As stated, the new Hornady V-Max bullet in 40-, 50-, or 55-grain weights are some of the best I have tried for accuracy and consistent fragmentation. They, along with the 50- and 55-grain Nosler Ballistic Tip Varmint, are great long-range bullets. The plastic tips provide a consistent ballistic coefficient that ensures long-range accuracy. Along with the Speer TNT and Sierra Blitz, they are among the best choices for shooting small varmints such as woodchucks, prairie dogs, and ground squirrels. These bullets are designed to FRAGMENT ON IMPACT, for a quick kill and reduced chance of ricochet.

.17 HMR! Very explosive - not much left afterwards but tiny particles. That would drive the forensics people nuts.

just use an accelerator -- they would not be able to track it back to any sort of rifle all they would have is an unmarked 22 bullet

You would have to custom load them and I am currently experimenting with them for the 308 and the 7.62x25 Thinking of offering all 30 caliber accelerators

| The problem with sabots/accelerators . . .
they could determine where the shot came from, then eventually find the plastic sabot. The soft plastic will have the "fingerprint" of the gun impressed in it. You're right back to square one.
