Hi all,
....was the Acting Chief of Ordnance thinking when in 1933 he told the US Navy Bureau of Ordnance that their request for 1,518 Model of 1903 Rifles was suspending action for their requisitions of these Rifles????
Have fun with this one.
Thanks again

P.S. Even if you can't answer the quiz post to it so I know you guys are out there.
Time for my meds.
Hi all,
The answer to this quiz is a hard one. Ok, here's what was going on, the Great Depression i.e. no money in the 1930's. The Garand Rifle known then as Project 5 was out of money. US Ordnance went to Congress and Congress said no funds for you. In the mean time the US Navy got money for about 20 warships they were building. The Navy sent two officers to SA to buy 1518 Model 1903's and they had 10,000 dollars to buy with. Army Ordnance then told them about the new M1 Rifle and that the Navy should buy them. The Navy said no so Army Ordnance stopped the order for the 1903's. Army Ordnance said that the Navy could have it's new M1 for a mere 500,000 dollars. I don't have the file that says yes to this but an Order comes down for the 1518 rifles, but they are for M1 Garand's. However, the Navy did get the M1 Garand until about mid 1938.
Thanks again'
