No, that's not a brand name, but it wouldn't be a bad idea for one. Inspired by the Phaser Pulse Rifle racks in Star Trek Nemesis, where a guy typed in an access code to flip open a series of panels, each with a phaser rifle, I'm thinking of making a line of fast access rifle storage containers. They would open either vertically or horizontally, and could also be used as large (ie friggin huge) carrying cases for multiple longarms. This would allow hidden storage of longarms in padded but readily accessible panels that would open under their own power (counterweights for vertical, springs for horizontal) by simply pushing on the panel, which is connected to one of those cabinet latches that's push to lock, push to unlock. It would come in different stacking configurations (ie horizontal rifles, vertical extension for behind a desk, vertical rifles, horizontal extension for behind a cabinet or shelf, 36" for AR carbine and AKM, 50" for full length Mosin and Mauser, other lengths as necessary, fully modular and internally customizable with foam blocks or silhouettes) I'm talking about something you can put behind your dresser and just tap firmly to have an AR and AK pop up (or for REAL men, a Garand or a FAL.) Good for hidden, out of the way storage with easy access to long arms for cleaning, fondling, showing, or if need be, home defense. And when you want to take them shooting, you can just latch the cases closed and load them into the vehicle. Anyone like the idea? Any preferences of configuration or improvements desired?

You should have seen Tony Soprano's column safe that spun open and had a AK in it...he sat outside all night waiting for the black bear to return to his backyard where his wife and son got scared by it! (In case you don't know what I'm talking about, Tony Soprano of "The Sopranos" on HBO.) There are some crusty people like PAPA G who have probably never seen it!

I've never seen it. Premium cable hasn't been in the budget since the 1980s, and expanded basic hasn't been since the 20th century. My ideas would fit a more law abiding household who wanted their longarms available, yet concealed and out of the way.

My killjoy answer to that, Papa G, is that the time required to open such a sealed container would make it impractical for quick access. Well, maybe it's worth considering, but the crapper's a less likely place to need a hidden gun than a bedroom.

I saw it I like the idea of stashing the toys in a column -- it looks completely out of the way and would not be something you would look for to find a weapon

BRG I am sure all of us have looked at the different items but you have to look at the house and the people living there -- that will determine your method of concealment fire protection is different.

NRA Joe - What in the world are you talking about? Sopranos are female singers, of two groups, First Soprano, and Second Soprano. I have watched sports on TV, but since it is all videotaped now, I quit, cause just like politics, they show you what they want you to know, and they don't want you to see it first hand, it is easier to put the commercials where they want them, if they don't let you see it first hand. [WOW, that has 7 (count 'em, commas)] I watch rental movies sometimes, because I hear a year or so after they aren't in the theaters anymore, that such and such movie was good. I do receive 3 channels that you can stand to watch through the snowstorm. TV was not around when I was growing up, and in fact we got a TV at our house just before I left home in the middle fifties, to work my way through college. I remember on a train trip through Kansas City in 1951, we visited with an aquaintance of my dad, who had a TV set sitting up on the refrigerator. They turned it on, and WOW, there was a "Test Pattern" visible, so we watched it for maybe 5 minutes, and it didn't change. I find that just as Adolph Hitler said, "Television is a great propaganda tool." and he used it well from 1935 onward. They had TV (of a sorts) with postage stamp sized screens (about 2 x 3 inches) beginning in 1935 in Germany, mainly just "Talking Heads", with propaganda about the Third Reich. |
