Cool My New Baby

This just arrived last week. I took a few pictures, then took it to a gunsmith for cleanup and inspection. If the gunsmith gives the safety green light, I hope to tote her to a range soon to see what she will do.

:full:

I was astonished by the CMP's rapid turnaround. Maybe I just got lucky. I mailed in the paperwork on May 14 and had the gun in my hot paws on May 26! After all of the horror stories I've read, I was REALLY pleased and surprised.

Maybe later, when I learn how to operate my camera more competently, I'll have more and better pix.

Looks like a 1.5 million and under since it has the annealing black color at the rear. Also the stock is Birch. Did you get lucky on any early parts? Glad you are happy and hope it shoots well for you. Rick B

Nope just hanging on the edge hehehehe. I have surgery June 28th and cant wait.
Warm weather has come and I take care of 4 yards plus put in a garden. I was taking care of a neighbor who was sick and has since passed. I was in charge of cleaning out his home and am now looking to buy it for a rental property. I want to keep the neighborhood up. This doesnt include taking care of the kids and stock work so I havent had the time to post much. Well back to work I go. Rick B

Actually, some rifles up into the 1.9 range have been seen with annealing, especially those receivers that didn't use 8620 (<>) steel. That's always been one detail to use in examining a potentially original rifle. The earlier ones usually were annealed at rebuild, but the later ones could have been annealed at the time of manufacture and prior to the change in steels.

Nice looking rifle. Gotta love the color and figure of well finished birch.

Thanks to all for all the nice comments. This is a Service Grade Springfield Armory rifle. The CMP's "NLU" is R001SA. The serial number is 1626xxx.

I'm a newbie to the Garand collecting hobby. I mainly wanted a little piece of history; one that I could blaze away with at the range. The rifle still has not come back from the gunsmith, so the shooting fun is on hold.

Shaun, if you'll tell me what TE and ME are, I'll try and find out for you.
