Thumbs up My day at the range.....

Weather was beautiful....75 degrees out with a 5mph wind.

The Bulgarian SLR101S and the Russian VEPR K were awesome! Deadly accurate right out of the box. I didn't have to do one adjustment to either of them. Was hitting wood blocks and coffee cans at 100 yards no problem. A guy was watching me and said he wants me on his team when they do the SKS/AK shoots this fall!

Put 180 rounds through the Bulgarian and 120 rds through the Russian. I actually preferred the Bulgarian...more traditional feel. The extra weight of them both made for awesome shooting and staying on target!

Only put 15 rds through the 91/30...pretty accurate...hit the propane tank at 100 yds but it kicks a little more than I prefer and the bolt action is pretty stiff....guess I'm more of a semi-auto mag fed kind of guy.

Took a couple of breaks and smoked a couple cigars and watched other people shoot....everyday should be like today!

Thanks for the range report, Joe. :right: Sounds like you had fun.

Hope your ear plugs worked ok because just reading about that much shooting makes my ears ring. Well.....they do that all the time because of tinatus, but even more so when I'm subjected to loud noises like that made by a .177 pellet gun.

Now go celebrate with a cold :cheer: :cheer: and think about the next range experience.

Wait a Minute Old propane tanks are a wonderful new resourse for shooters

There was a configuration change of the valving on all lp tanks in the United States
So the old ones are no longer legal and have to be desrtoyed.
they usually are empty or close to it.
They will burn for about an hour after being hit with a 7.62x54r
armor penatrator.
Do not do this up close, or in dry grass, but in a dirt field at a hunnerd yards its a "blast"
But not particularly dangerous

Exclamation

I'm shooting unrepairable gas grill propane tanks that I get at "Toledo Torch" for free...they don't have any gas in them anymore and my club/range gets the scrap money for them once I've "ventilated" them.

Try it...its a "gas"

Gives off a very satisfying "CLANG!"

After shooting about 30 of them, I had my first flare up this morning...first shot..."Clang!" Spark...fizzle...fizzle...it was cool!

I can trade those in at the local exchange station and get free new tanks filled for $16 bucks so why destroy them --I would rather have plenty of gas to melt lead with

OPD's just make sure the gas is drained out (after an MT tank) and clean up the scraps afterward. Keep shots far down range to reduce richochets. Otherwise no safety or enviro damage.
