Had a "sting" going on today in Dundee,MI for the "Clickit or ticket" bullcrap! Had Dundee cops watching the road, then radio ahead to the Monroe Co. Deputy to pull people over! By time I realized what was going on, it was too late! Bastage roars up on me like I had just robbed a bank! Thought he was gonna ram me in the arse! Congenial yet snide in his mannerisms...had to post a $20 bond to keep my license...gave me the ticket with no fine costs on it...have to call the Monroe Co. Courthouse to find out what it is...luckily its close to me if I want to pay in person. I believe its gonna be $100!!!!! I hate seatbelts...its my truck...my life...whats it to them? Real cops got better things to do (at least in Toledo they do!) Whats next? No smoking in your vehicle? At least the day wasn't a total loss...found a beautiful Chinese "Paratrooper" SKS with the spike bayonet on it...put $100 down on it...90 days to pay. Had a hard time deciding between that or the Russian SKS...that was a beauty also...1951 dated...maybe next time....I don't come across too many "Paratroopers" though. :uzi:

Good find on the toy -- what's this about a bail on your license --if you have to hand cash over could that be looked at as them requesting a bribe there in OH

Giving cops money on the spot sounds fishy to me. In kansas you have to be pulled over for something else before they can get you for seat belts. I know you were in a pickle, but giving police money on the spot isn't kosher if ya know what I mean.

I've seen the bond thing once before. I still cant believe this is legal. Years ago in Colorado the guy I was with was pulled over for speeding and the cop said it was a $20 fine and had to be paid on the spot. He pulled out a $20 bill, the cop wrote down the serial number of the bill, gave him an envelope and told him to put it in the next mailbox! If that particular $20 bill wasnt in the cop shop in a few days, he was in serious trouble. |

Once I was pulled over in KS by a state trooper while I was pulling a 16' boat along I-35. Musta been driving about 6 miles over the posted 55 mph at that time. Just left Lake Pamona where we'd been skiing for the weekend and was headed back to K.C. with my wife and two teenage daughters when his lights and/or siren came on. He was polite and all but required me to park the car and boat along the expressway while I rode with him to a nearby city where I paid the fine in a sealed envelope. He said this was to prevent him from being accused of stealing fines. Then he took me back to the highway where my family was waiting and I headed back to K.C., MO. Didn't like that scenario but that's what happened. He said that if I'd been a resident of KS I wouldn't have been required to pay the fine in full VIA cash.

Ox, That just doesnt seem right that a trooper would leave your family on the side of the rode. Sounds like a dangerous place to be. I believe you but just doesnt seem right. What if you had no money on you? What would have happened? The DPS, Sheriffs, local police can all get the drivers license or plate number. Seems like they should sort of trust a person to send in the fine and if they dont get the money, then issue a warrant. That would be much worse. |

Snakebite...I agree with you. It wasn't right. He also said that If I didn't have cash that I would have had to post bond or go to jail. My wife and kids could have driven the car w/boat to the next turnaround and followed but she chose to wait for me at the original scene. Wasn't wise, and I realize it now, but at the time we weren't thinking all that clearly. Ox

Never heard of that myself. I Don't practice it either. I have IH35 and IH10 and IH37 all in one city...lotsa outta towners. Can't see putting someone the in the patrol car with me. Doesn't make sense to me. Can't see taking a license over it either. Bottom line....wear your dam seatbelt. Not a bastage Joe....you broke the law.
