7 Convicted In Marine Shooting In Kuwait
5 Acquitted

POSTED: 8:16 am EDT June 5, 2004

KUWAIT CITIY -- A court in Kuwait has convicted seven Islamic extremists in connection with a shooting attack that killed a U.S. Marine almost two years ago.

Three of the militants received four- to five-year prison sentences for joining an illegal organization and weapons possession. Three others were fined, and one was given two years probation.

Another Marine was injured when two cousins opened fire on American soldiers as they were taking a break from a training exercise in October of 2002. Other Marines killed the pair on the scene.

It was the first attack on U.S. forces in Kuwait, which has been a major ally of Washington.

Twelve people were tried for conspiring with the shooters or belonging to their terrorist cell. Five were acquitted Saturday.

Kinda shows us what the world really thinks of us. Not one of the killers was convicted of murder according to the article. The were convicted for other frivolous stuff.

Read the article; the 2 shooters were killed by other marines. The ones convicted were the ones who were associated and conspired with the 2 gunmen. I don't know what the penalties are in Kuwait but it did sound light to me.

And Kuwait is an ally? Should have made an example out of the guys to show the other extremists what would happen if they tried this crap.
