Back home again, a little early . . .

Well, we got up to Indiana. Interesting drive. Dad insisted on driving the whole way, so I was relagated to being the Navigator.
Mom had some health trouble (severe emphezema - from too long smoking), and we had to cut the visit short. We did get to see a few old family members for a mini-family reunion. I never did hook up with Uncle Larry, to return the little .22 singleshot to give to his grandson - I guess I'll keep the gun afterall.
Gas wasn't too awfully bad. Worst prices here in Florida - $2.03 average. Best was in Kentucky - $1.79. $1.85 to $1.94 most places.
We took the Interstate 65 most of the way up. Coming back, Mom wanted to see some sights (might be her last chance) so we came down 231 and finished on 27 through Georgia - a nice scenic route.
I like pastoral farm scenes, and there were plenty to see - up and down.
In our Indiana town, a festival was underway this weekend, and rooms were hard to find. We had two - Dad & Mom in one, me in a single - but it looked like we wouldn't have a room for the next two or three days. Only a third floor "smoking" room was available after that first night - Mom couldn't tolerate that. Stairs and smoke are not her friends. So we headed back Friday about noonish. Got home Saturday about 5ish in the PM.
1760-odd miles in three days - quite a drive!
Dad's 2002 Sable did very well - held 70 to 80 most of the way. Still got passed by the occasional New Beetle! Hot little scuttlebugs.
Our six-banger never ran hot, even climbing the Smoky Mountains.
Well, the adventure is over, and I'm one tuckered out
hound dog.
Whoowee - I slept from about 9PM Saturday to 7AM this morning! Just about got the kinks worked out.
