although ive got quite a few years to go i most likely would stay right here in MN. weve got a little bit of everything here, fishing , hunting and most other things that i percieve having a desire for when retired.

Unless you've got medical reasons to move, or have some other pressing reason to leave where you live now, why move. Hopefully, your family, friends, your home, your usual routines are all available so why add the stress and expense of a move?

A big consideration, too, is whether or not your spouse is wanting to move, too. We all know that if she's not happy, you won't be happy either. Now if she's supportive of a move somewhere where both of you could enjoy doing the kinds of things both of you would enjoy, that's something to get excited about and could be the right reason to move.

But, just because you're retiring doesn't automatically equate to having to move.

Now if you're single, there's nobody to hold you back from doing what you want to do. Still, some of the above reasons I've listed above still stands in your case, too.

I'll be quite honest will ya'll I am not going to have a lot of money to retire on and I am going to have to stretch every single dollar.

So knowing that, I would retire to Panama. After establishing residency I will get free healthcare. The dollar is recognized there. International banking is not a problem like other Centeral American countries. People speak English. It's warm. Parrots are every where. It's cheap to eat, drink and live there. There's the Oceans, Pacific or Atlantic. And most of all I can fall in love in my old age with a brown breasted bed thrasher and we'll happily ever after.

If the political climate doesn't change too much, I'll probably stay here in Florida (the northern part ain't so bad). Otherwise, maybe go to eastern Washington State or Idaho.

Yeah, I guess they will hold my funeral until I get off from work, too. I own property in Minn. I'd like to go there, I think... But, if things reain as they are, exchange rates I'm talking about, I'd like to spend more time in China. Our dollar goes unbelieveably far. I think the rate now is 8.27 to one dollar. Food is cheap, rent, trans, phone, internet, clothes, health care....you name it. And, dispite what many of you think, Americans are welcomed and one can now own property! Crime is there but, so small that you need not worry.....much. I enjoyed my stay and found the culture, and sights breathtaking. You cannot imagine what the great Wall looks like unless you have actually been there and walked on it yourself. I love old things....the older the better! And folks, let me tell you, they got really old buildings and art! I saw a clock that was built in the 1700's...guess what folks, it still runs! While there are many wonderful places in America to see and many great places to go....it's just too dang costly. I expect to be dang near pennyless when I retire. I just thought it might be nice to go somewhere to live the remaineder of my life without being destitute. I'll probably just drop dead and the family will get my 10 acres in Minn. But, it's a nice fantasy.

Beautiful tax-free New Hampshire for most of the year
Someplace warm (FL or AZ) for the winter.
I've got about 8 years to decide.

I love this piece of land here in the caribbean, I'll buy a beach Apt. in the future and keep my metro Apt. for daily living, maybe buy a house if I marry some day (I'll let that decision to the girlfriend if the time comes).

Anyway, the metro Apt. isn't going to be sold just in case I get kicked from the house by the wife to be.

My retirement is in the very distant future, but I doubt my plans would change drastically.

You guys are welcome here for your retirement too, many Mainland folks end here !!

Of course Arizona has a bunch of Sun Cities with the old blue hairs and most of them like it here. I personally would never live there. Golf is the only thing that keeps the old guys going and I dont play golf.
The warm weather is why they move here in herds. There is one huge disadvantage to living in a retirement town that many dont know about. They have an extremely high rate of alcoholism and believe it or not...social diseases.
I have put some thought into where I want to go when I retire. I absolutely love Colorado and there is fishing and hunting everywhere but its too cold. Plus I cant see me dragging my 65 year old butt around the 10,000 foot mountains after a lifetime of smoking!
My next choice would be Nevada. No income tax, gun friendly, Lake Mead, Tahoe, and Vegas. Lots to do to keep an old guy off the street!
But in reality, I'll probably have workmens compensation pay for the funeral before I ever get to retire. This workin for a living is gonna kill me.
