| Senior Member | Wierd Tanks I have been reading a book about heavy russian tanks in ww2, they made some monsters. Usually we think of the t-34 as the best all- around tank in ww2, but they produced different tanks to counter german types encountered in combat. the first shown here is the kv-2 weighing in at 53 tons with 4.5 inches of armour, and sporting a 152mm main gun, It was a nasty shock to panzer divisions that encountered it early in the war, impervious to early panzers it could take any punishment dealt out, and was used at kursk to good effect, the second is the smk that was used in the russo-finnish war and hated by its crews, with a 76mm main gun and 45 mm secondary, the third is the isu-152 self propelled gun, that was used at kursk to counter the v1b royal tiger panzer, and left the panzer divisions in amazement, with an upgraded 152mm gun, 50 tons, the russians made even heavier tanks by the end of the war, like the is-3, that was better than any thing fielded at that time |

The T34s are all gone but the KVs (Joseph Stalin) tanks are still locked in storage waiting to be called up for duty. The Russians had superior tanks thoughout all of WW2 - but inferior tactics until mid 1944. Patton may have had an ugly surprise had he gotten his wish to start WW3 immediately after the end of WW2. The T34 was vastly superior to the Sherman in every aspect and there where very few Pershings in the European theatre in 1945.
