I recently saw a Mossy 500 with door breacher brake for sale at Sportsman's Warehouse. Had a Knoxx stock like Madcratebuilder's.

To bad none of our wwI vets are alive, I'd like to know from them just how effective the old trench gun was.I would think that at close range/close quarters the old 12 gauge would be a good choice????

simular to the old trench gun commonly called a riot shot gun.

the old trench gun had an exterior hammer wood stock no heat shield with bayonette lug.

I am looking for a pump shotgun for home defense.
My main concern is length and capacity.
My state length is 18" barrel and 26"overall.
I have handled an old mossberg 410 pump that was sawed off. But I dunno if its enough for me and only held 4 rounds.
And I want something that I can use slugs.
Is there a hi cap 20ga out there that I can snub?
I will be buying cheap, or used if you will.

Your state has the same laws as the whole country. DO NOT make your shotgun shorter in either measurement.

For a hi cap 20ga there's Mossberg and Winchester, I believe their tubes are 8rds.

For best capacity in a short barrel, something with a detachable magazine is good. Good examples are the Saiga and Valtro shotguns.

My favorite home gun is my....

Mossberg 500A 12Ga, picatinny rail with Center Point Quick Aim Sight. Pistol grip with full butt stock. 00 Buck. Want the first one to be the last one. The Quick Aim is for outside on the property. I live on acerage where I can shoot.....but not necessary for indoors. If the noise is downstairs and everyone upstairs is in bed....so sorry for the bad guy! I agree with everyone who said "practice practice practice." You don't want to be learning when things get hot! Sometimes racking the slide is enough to send 'em running but one needs to be prepared to let fly! Not a lot of night time break ins out here as most everyone is armed. I like to be ready as my family is my most precious possession. I also like the Pro Lock trigger lock. If you have not checked one out, do so. It has an instant mode. I gave the shotgun, unloaded, to my son with the trigger lock on in "instant mode." Did not require the key, just the trick. After 30 minutes he gave up. Have one on my Remy 597 .22LR as well. Just my 2 cents.
