POP out comes the race card....still this is total BS.
Dying While White
Residents of a New York City borough are fighting plans to name a community center after a slain policeman simply because the officer was white, reports the New York Daily News.
The residents of South Jamaica in Queens say the new Police Athletic League center should be named after an African-American instead.
Betty Dopson, of the frighteningly-named Committee to Eliminate Media Offensive to African People, said the decision to name the center after 22-year-old rookie Edward Byrne was “disrespectful” to the community. She said Byrne's death "was a tragedy ... but there are heroes of color who are unrecognized."
do white political action groups ever oppose a memorial nameing of a school because the deceased person was black?
how can we let such blantant raceisn exist in this country today

I think the simple solution is to move the rec center to the white side of town. That way both sides will be happy. No black folk be dis'd and whitey gets to play basket ball! Win, win! I bet the white folks would appreciate it.

That officer died protecting there neighborhood. There is not maybey on the double standard question. Its blatant and it is also blatant Racism. Imagine if a white community had objections to a street being named after a black officer slain in the line of duty.

Well here is the question not answered in the article provided: who came up with the name for the building in the first place. Was the choice based on community input? Who made the decision to name the building? If the decision was made outside the community, I can understand the opposing view.

I don't know who came up with the name but I can not understand the opposing veiw. If a black officer gave his life while honarably performing his duty in my neighborhood his name would be more than welcome on a community center. This is racism pure and simple.
