This past wednesday, GunGeek and I returned to his home to find his father, a 50+yr old veteran of Vietnam, shaking in his bed with rapid staggered breathing. Immediately we called 911. Even the paramedics could not get him to respond, though his eyes were wide open. He was rushed to the nearest hospital, where they "paralyzed" him (drugged him so much that he needed artificial respiration, so his body wouldn't go haywire). Apparently this was a seizure, and he was supposed to be taking medicine for them, but had failed to do so for half a decade. He's a diabetic, and though this first appeared to be some sort of diabetic shock, it appears to be much more serious. They informed us that he had high cholesterol and high blood pressure. Since the CAT scan machine wasn't working, they airlifted him to another hospital where the doctors are watching him still. As of that night they still weren't sure exactly what was wrong with him, but they were treating him for meningitis on the off chance that it was the problem. They said more test results should be in soon so that they'll have a much better idea of what's going on. They were going to monitor his brain waves to see if he was still having seizures that would do what he was doing before. I'll call GunGeek soon to see if there's been any progress, and your prayers will be greatly appreciated. Also if this sounds like one of the many conditions people brought back from Vietnam, that might help to understand. This happened about a week after GunGeek's car was totaled by what was essentially a hit and run.

Just talked to GunGeek and he says his father's breathing on his own now, and can respond to simple commands such as being asked to squeeze the person's hand. Seems like a small step but in the right direction. I tend to think the man's totally blitzed and will take a little while to get back to his senses. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. It's looking better, but there's a long way to go.
