It's started

People are being called up in the IRR (inactive ready reserve) As you may recall these are folks who got out, but are subject to call up for up to 8 years.

A while back ago, some of you asked about the draft. This is first.

Maybe, just maybe, we shouldn't be all over the world with our military forces. It's a thought.

IRR was also called up in 90'. No draft when that happened.

K.
No one is taking the wind out of my sails. I just thought it to be an interesting piece of current events.

Furthermore, if for some reason you think I'm not qualified to express opinions on the subject, I beg to differ.

Given my age...current physical condition...and disability rateing of 80%.....Im pretty sure that unless the Chinease invasion comes within 5 miles of my house Im not gona have too much to worry about the draft. My 14yr old daughter....I would send her in a hart beat....she has so much attitude that she would scare most DI's and I would pay to watch her arrive at boot camp.

On a serious note, the IRR is part of the contract....maybe getting recalled torques people off but its in the contract....and like we said in recruiting USMC (U Signed the MF Contract).

Fear not, Jerry. I don't question your qualifications or your original point. It is an interesting piece of current events.
So, peace be with you.

Your right, it's not 1990, it's 2004. In 1990 IRR was called up in October and November, the "war" didn't start until January. I am quite surprised it has taken them so long this time.

I'm not saying a draft isn't going to happen and yes we need more troops.

I still think if the war gets that bad we should put draftees to work on the supply chain. Giving our best guys what they need will make more of a difference in this war than sending more of the same guys over and spreading the supplies even thinner among them.

I also think before we consider drafting people we should first draft some of those weapons that we're just sitting on. As Patton said, we want the other poor !!!!!!! to die for his country.

I am still young enough and in shape enough -- under a draft if you have multiple degree's does that mean officer if so I am going to have to do a lot to get grunt status

Papa G is correct, us old folks are still good for some things. I'll go, if asked.

I'm in fine condition to run, jump, climb, get smacked, fall down, get up again, and shoot, but have a peculiar condition that would hinder being in foreign combat. I still think me and most guys who would be drafted would be better used for homeland security and military supply production.

Thumbs up

I spent six years sitting on my butt in an ET shop - I could do that again.

A couple well placed hits with a tack hammer will wipe all that pesky higher education away.

BRG3 you and gungeek, like to play soldier, as evidenced by some pic posted, draftees, as the last draft was, had little choice of what they did. every swinging Richard in this country, needs to pay their fair share, to the investment made by the Founding Fathers and their believers and followers over 200 years ago.

it is a Sacred Honor, to sacrifice for what this land has given us.

Our founding fathers didn't all believe in a standing army, and the thought of going to foreign shores for foreign wars was unthinkable. Not saying we shouldn't, but it's certainly not what they had in mind. George Washington's farewell address is amazingly full of foresight about what we've faced since then.

Talking

yea, well guess what, the Founding Fathers were wise, but their wisdom had been subverted from the gitgo. the vast majority of Americans have no clue what so ever of their countrys history, nor care about it either.
