| Super Moderator ![]() | FL - Civy's to become spies. Looks like the gov is asking for citizens to spy on citizens Florida Citizens to Help Catch Terrorists Wednesday, July 14, 2004 MIAMI — Law enforcement officials in central Florida are planning to train cable repairmen, exterminators and apartment managers to report signs of terrorism inside their clients’ homes. Supporters of the program say making private citizens the eyes and ears of the police will save lives. But opponents, like the ACLU, call the plan “un-American” and say it’s a violation of privacy. Operation TIPS, a similar program proposed by President Bush, was withdrawn in 2002 after critics said it would lead to racial profiling. So far, 5,000 brochures detailing the Florida plan have been printed, and volunteers will be trained what to look for. But Orange County officials stress that people who go through the training will be encouraged to only report what they see — not search for evidence.

| Seems like that would open their employers to all sorts of legal problems. Exterminating foreign terrorist - great idea! Using the bug exterminator to do it - BAD idea. Don't we have people paid to do this sorta thing? |

| Yep, this bright idea will die a quick death after the first few million-dollar lawsuits against the state. Jeb has been coming up with some real "doozies" lately. He is no friend of state workers, and now he's gonna pizz off the rest of the folks. Smooth move, Jeb. That sucking sound you'll soon be hearing is your political carreer going down the toilet . . . ![]()

| Senior Member ![]() | Just because I am paranoid, I have little to do with my neighbors and nobody but, family or friends do I invite into my home. All others remain outside. Sadly, my work schedule is written in stone but, otherwise, I pay my rent, say "good morning" and close my door to the outside, lock it, apply the chain and forget there is anything outside. Stuff like this continues to concern me about Bush. We all want the terrorists to burn in hell but, spying on citizens is just plain going too far. I go on record opposing this move. There are too many turbin heads to watch besides ordinary people. My complaint has always been the gumint does not look in the obvious areas...but, rather the normal citizens. Makes me continue to wonder who is the real enemy...the terrorists or the gumint. Maybe they are just two sides of the same coin. I am very concerned and have been ever since this PA garbage got started. It all needs to go and all envolved should be charged with treason against the American people.
