I was hoping to get some suggestions on what the problem may be with a Carbine I recenlty aquired. It is an inland division model. I was at the range yesterday and shot commercial ammo and it would, for a lack of a better term, "short cycle". It would fire the chambered round, extract the spent case, drop it on the following round, and then try to load the both of them. Is this an extractor or ejector problem? any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Well the extractor is pulling the round out of the chamber, so the extractor is fine. And it sounds like it is trying to eject the spent casing so before you condem the ejector I would disassemble the bolt and look for either a broken or missing ejector spring.

It could be the extractor too. M1 carbines can loose the edge of the extractor and have the same symptoms. It could also be a weak extractor spring. I do agree though, that it is most likely a bad/broken ejector spring.
