GunGeek has a bayonet for his M1 Carbine, and there seems to be something not right about it. The loop for the barrel is far enough forward that it can actually slip off, or almost slip off. The diameter is oversized, so it wobbles around. I thought this may be because it's a cheapo Universal Carbine, but apparently this does the same thing on his dad's GI Carbine as well.
I started taking it apart to see how it was built. And then I started wondering maybe this isn't a GI bayonet. The backplate with the latches was apparenty screwed right into the plastic handle. This handle didn't have two parts, rather it seemed to have been moulded around the blade. I saw no metal attachment inside of it, suggesting the tang may not have been very long. The loop/handguard of it was pinned to the blade, which was a bright color, possibly stainless steel.
Does this sound familiar to anyone as a military bayonet or cheapo, and does anyone know where to order a good M1 carbine bayonet?

It sounds like the bayonet for the M16, not the M4. The ring had to fit around the suppressor so it is slightly larger in diameter. And If I remember correctly, it is about 1/4 inch longer in the handle. Otherwise, you can easily mistake one for the other. Look on the guard and see whether or not it says M4. I'm betting it says M6 instead.

M6 and not M7? I'll ask him. I doubt it was the M16 one though as the lug seemed a bit different. He has an AR-180 that takes the same bayonet as the M16, so he can try that out.
Based on the construction, though, I question whether it was GI.
Thanks for the info!
