fellas i dont have a 1911, but i want one. im intrested in getting my foot in the door with a rock island armory1911. billy i noticed you posted a pic of yours wandering what model that was. again im a noob when it comes to 1911s.rondog also posted some pics of his rock islands 1911. can u guys clarify what models they are. it would save me alot of time. thanks

fmj

is this there gi model? that is the most beautiful gun ive seen in a long time. no fancy bells and whistles. just a mean looking lead spittin beauty. but what do i know, im a noobie. i read a ariticle review on the rock island 1911's thought it was intresting.(Rock Island Armory M1911A1 By Syd "The Sight 1911″ Gunner’s Journal)

i agree for the price you cant beat a ri. id like to know some feedback on rock island though.

Jack - That's not a Rock Island in your photos, that's a Springfield Armory GI model. A mighty fine gun in it's own right, but a little pricier than a Rock Island (RIA). SA's frames are made in Brazil by Imbel, and they're finished here in the US. Springers are very good guns, and they have several models to choose from.

RIA's are very good quality entry-level 1911's, I have three and have had no problems. They're made in the Phillipines by Armscor, who also make High Standard and Charles Daly 1911's, Armscor-branded 1911's (which are not imported here), and they make the frames for the STI custom 1911's made in Texas. All of these guns have excellent customer service behind them, I'd rate Springfield and RIA at the top, CD and STI next, but I haven't heard anything about HS's cust. service.

I see you're here in Colorado, where at? If there's a Big R Farm and Ranch store near you, most of them carry the RIA GI models in stock, and frequently have them on sale for $369.99-$379.99, I've bought two at the store in Elizabeth. My Compact I bought over the phone from Sarco for $339, but buying a gun sight unseen can be a crapshoot. I got lucky, mine is an excellent pistol!

RIA's basically come in three flavors, the standard GI model, the Tactical, and the Compact, which is a 3.5" barrel and a shorter grip, same thing as a Colt Officer's ACP. The perfect carry weapon, IMO. The Tactical is a full-size 5" gun, with a Combat Hammer, Beavertail grip safety, better Novak-style sights, ambidextrous thumb safety (lever on both sides), and a Combat trigger. It's only around $60 more than the GI, and would be an excellent choice! I wish I had one, I'm converting one of my GI's into one by putting the parts on, except for the ambi safety.

A RIA is a good choice for a first 1911, they're good guns. But I also have two new Colt 1911's, and they're in another league.

Jeez, I don't have any shots of my newest Colt here. This is a reproduction of the original WWI M1911 pistol, in Carbonia Blue finish. Colt only made 4 or 5 thousand of these as a limited production run, but they're such high quality and were so popular that they've continued making them in the Black Oxide finish that came out in 1918.

I found this one for sale on the 'net, the seller works in the building right across the street from my office! Bought it for $899, face-to-face, with all the boxes and accessories. Most accurate pistol I've ever had, and gorgeous in person!

Both Colts together....

Well, that's CrazyIvan's photo, but that's a Compact, not a GI. This is what a Rock GI looks like out of the box........

Size comparison between the GI and Compact....

And there's a Big R in Falcon.....

BIG R Colorado, North Dakota, Kansas, Montana, Nevada,

Both are awesome, but I prefer the compact Officer's Model. Not much difference in price tho.

The ammo for a 1911 is a tad much for me but if I did end up getting one, it would probably be a Firestorm for money reasons.

My favorite is a 1911 A-1, Commercial 1937. It's had very little use and is in original condition including the grips. Nice and tight.
