GOLIATH, one big horse!

Family went to see this critter while I was at work this weekend.

Goliath is a Percheron Draft horse who currently holds the Guinness Worl Record for being the tallest living horse.

He stands 19.1 hands (6'5" at the withers)and weighs about 2400 pounds

Goliath eats 18 lbs of pilgrims pride grain 40 lbs of coastal bermuda hay, and drinks 20 gallons of water each day

Goliath doesn't each much grass. Bynum explained that Goliath can't reach the grass very well. Because of his extraordinary height, his neck just isn't long enough for him to comfortably graze. Bynum said, "He'll stretch his (front) legs apart like a foal so he can get his head down there (to the grass)."

And although Goliath is the tallest horse, his head is not the biggest. When it comes to halters and other headstalls, no exceptionally big size is needed, just one that will fit most draft horses. "Actually, some of the other horses have bigger heads," Bynum shared, "and he has small feet, some of the smallest of the horses we have."
I saw the picture and wondered how he grazed - I guess he doesn't. As for his feet, they actually look like a regular horse's hooves. Usually draft animals have enormous hooves (dinner plate sized). Kind of makes me wonder if he wasn't cross bred with a quarter horse or something.

I don't know Herm, them hooves are as wide as that cowboys boots are long. He's short but golly gee he has to at least wear a size 9 or 10. That should be pretty close to dinner plate sized. I ain't familiar that much with horses but thats one big critter.
Hate to have to push him off my toes, what was left of 'em anywho.

Then I take the time to read the flipp'n article and they say how he has the smallest feet of all the horses they have - well there's my sign, I'm gone.

Looks like a nice solid horse to ride, of course you need a ladder to get on his back
