i started to load some 30's last week but was out of bullets so i made a run to the gun shop. he didnt have any 110gr bullets at all. but as i was beginning to leave he started to try and talk me into buying some 130gr .308 dia. bullets to load in the 30 carbine cases. it sounded kinda hoakie to me so i gave him a "youve done lost your frickin mind!" looks and left. but do you think it would be possible/safe? i have no doubt i could make up a load for the weight,but i was worried more about over all length. do you think it would be worth trying ?

You sorta can do it. Since the "dirty thirty" is a tapered case, you run into really big problems fast with long bullets. You have probably noticed how weird the case looks when you seat them, even just a hair, too deep. So now the question begs, what are you shooting it in, and what kind of bullets. If they are 130g RN, you'll have no problem, even with the deep seat. If you are shooting a T/C or and exceptionally long throated .30 M1 Carb, no problem. If they are spire pointed and the T/C, just load them long, and spire pointed on and M1 you'll have to hand feed them one at a time. Hope that helps

thanks alot guys! i would be shooting them from an m1. and the bullets he was trying to sell me were spire points. i dont know if ill try em though. but thanks for the insight!

Interesting.
My Speer 13 shows 4 projectiles suitable. This of course depends on the rifle, condition of the feed ramp etc.

100 grain "plinker" Iv'e run thousands through my .308, love them
110 grain RN-FMJ
110 grain RN-SP
110 grain HP "varmiter"
