Had a fun day fishing yesterday with two of my buddies. We went to Lake Winnebago, which is in the southeastern part of Kansas city. One of the guys has a home there with lakeside frontage where he's got a covered dock in which he keeps his pontoon boat and SeaDoo?...or whatever it's called.
We were fishing for channel catfish right off his dock by using a small hook burried in a yellow feather and loaded up with a single piece of biddle and bits (sp)dogfood. I put on 8 lb test line because before that I'd been trout fishing using 4 lb line. Hey...within the third cast I caught an 18" channel catfish and my buddy caught a 24" channel CF, too, about the same time. Don't have any idea as to their weight...but I'd guess they must have been in the 2-4 pound range.
Now that's what we spent most of the day doing and later cruising around the lake looking at some really fancy houses along the shore lines. Didn't have any luck catching crappie as we stopped several times along some enviting coves. Ran out of time to use the SeaDoo? but we'd planned to give that a try later in the afternoon. Hey...we were having too much fun catching those channel catfish. We released them all so maybe we'll get to catch them again on another fishing trip.
Sounds fun to me. Never went fishing for catfish yet... Either way, a bad day of fishing is better than a good day at work. Lake Winnebago? Are you sure you weren't in Wisconsin? Look at a map of WI, and that huge lake in the eastern part of the state is Lake Winnebago. It is huge, but only around 30 feet deep at the most (which I find weird).
I have been out fishing for largemouth a lot though this summer, and have been doing ok. Wanted to go out today, but it started raining as work ended.... And I wasn't that desperate to go out. Probably going tomorrow after work. Oh yeah, I bought a small boat this year, so that is why I haven't been around as much. When I go fishing on the boat, I have been getting more bass, but less northern. Oh well, it is still fun.
