How much is the M1 worth?

Ive got a friend who is looking to sell the M1 Carbine. Im no expert on the M1 so I figure that you guys could give me an estimate. It has a picture of a bomb? on the barrel with flames coming out of it. Then it says W.R.A. under that, then 12-42 under that. If need more info on the gun, I will give it to you. Thanks for your time.

The barrel sounds like the carbine may be an early winchester. But we need to know a lot more. I suspect that it has an adjustable rear sight, otherwise you would have known who manufactured the receiver. Look under the sight just above the serial number. Also give us the approximate serial number. Describe the features of the carbine and any other markings you can find. Almost all carbine parts except springs have markings somewhere. Also tell us about the finish, obvious repark? or original? It could be valued anywhere from $350 up to $1500, but I suspect it is a rebuild that would be in the $450-$700 class.
