Exclamation Would you carry a gun....

Even though you didn't have a CCW at work? I am here all by myself at 0100hrs Security at a HAZ-MAT company. I work at the end of a very dark road...nothing down this road but the Railroad and a dump farther down. I was sitting in the shack watching TV and a big older Olds 88 4 door has pulled up to the gate twice and speeds off when I open the door! It looks like 3 or 4 black males inside. All I have is a baseball bat...lotta good thats gonna do. What say you? Carried by 6 or tried by 12? The place I work has no fenceline and is wide open because the railroad needs access rights. I have come in the main building before and people were in here looking for payphones! They have come in from the RR tracks...there is a bar up the hill and people have walked down it.

I say go ahead and pack something small and easily conceiled. What the boss don't know won't hurt him! :uzi:

Joe -- if it were me I would make the choice to do it but you do realize if you are ever busted for it you can kiss off a CCW

Another problem is my boss was talking about putting up those "No CCW" signs around here. I might get my CCW sooner and deal with my boss later if something happens. I wouldn't have a job probably but I'd be legal in the eyes of the state. Heck, if I was unemployed I could drive around at 0100hrs and harrass people too!

Get you CCW from working some of them overtime hours...and take the chance. Your life is valued more...or at least I feel that way.

CCQ main word CONCEILED..... if you never need it.....then its conceild..and out of sight...so no one knows......if SHTF welp alive and collecting unemploymet beats dead and wifee poo collecting life insurance. Like you Joe I do the security thing...cape is big no gun rules...and cars searched from time to time at gate...so no gun at work...but thenagain Im so far out in a swamp its no big thing....when working construction sights and stuff Florida law says unarmed guards cant be armed....but there have been occasions when I might have forgot to take a shotgun out of my car after a trip to the range.....and did not realize it till I was at work leaning aginst my car haveing a cup of coffee..

hey joe, it doesnt have to be a firearm ya carry to work!stun guns,c.s gas hunting knife...heck theres alot of stuff ya can get.and hypothetically (sp?) speaking if a guy were to hide a drop gun with no serial numbers someplace outside or in any place where it would be handy....nobody could legally tie him to that gun. and if he had to use it,well he could just say "the dead burgular had it and i took it from him and boom!" Joe,
I just left a security job I worked for 7 Years, and despite the rules, no CCW signs, and all the other liberal/lawyer BS. I was armed every hr. of every day, and they never knew it. The reason they make those rules is financal. It's cheaper to hire another Joe than to pay the insurance to have you armed, or pay the higher wages armed sec. normally commands.

If you leave you naked butt out flaping in the breeze, don't be suprised if someone trys to take a poke at it. Yup! it's that judged by 12, carried by 6 thing, your choice.

If I were you, I would feel mighty exposed! What are the chances of finding a job with an "armed" security company? I would at least go with "Whirlwind's" idea about the taser and pepper spray - better than nothing. Kinda.

The CCW permit is a great idea - work or no work. Down hear it is like $20 a year and is easier than getting your drivers license. Of course, they have some pretty stupid restrictions on where you can carry! Part of Today's world I guess.

Personally, after getting the CCW, I would find a very cancelable pistol and carry it - so long as they don't ever search you at work. Heck, it is easier to find a new job than a new life! Just keep it legal with the State.

While I must agree with Shaun and Chris, the fact of the matter is: You are, at least partially responsible for your own safety. Carry the toy concelled and do not mention to anyone you have it. If you must use it to save your life, deal with what happens and take your medicene. At least you're still alive and unhurt, hopefully. Otherwise, you might wish you had. The scene, as you discribe it, seems awfully deserted and lonely out there. Plus, you are in a high risk area. My advice, don't tempt fate. Remember Murphy's law.....if it can, it will. Besides, the crew, in the car, if they are like the vermin here, in the third world of Florida, they view you as prey and will not hesitate to kill you for the change in your pocket. Kill them first, you'll be doing the world a favor by reducing thier numbers!

thats a toughy to answer, i don't wan't Joe to be a victim of crime, but i don't want him to be a victim of the system either.

maybe you need to keep a log of incidents. then show the supervisors whats going on and what they think you should do. offer a litiny of choices, when all that fails, ask what the burial plan is for your body.

Question

that system can really get expensive..what about a pump shotgun in the trunk ?..the cops may not look at it like they would at an Avtomat Kalashnikov..cops around here get kinda funny about AK-47s..start thinking you're up to no good :insane:

I'd keep the full stock on it..that way you can say "It's my deer gun" and "I took it to the range to sight it in for hunting season and forgot to take it out of the trunk" :right:
