30-06 surplus ammo?

So now I guess I have a 30-06. One of the reasons (other than the price of the rifle for a cool $240 :right: ) I wanted a 30-06 was because of some cheap ammo. And besides I love the 30-06. A great round. Volnerable, maybe. But a lot of choices too when I decide to take up hand loading
I don't intend on burning it up with surplus, but I was just curious as for what to look for.
Any suggestions?

30-06 surplus isnt necessarily cheap- .308 is cheaper. best bet for -06 surplus is to join the cmp as they sell us surplus ammo. now the best 06 surplus you'll find is danish- if you can find it at all buy a case or 2. korean surplus is also available, but you take your chances with it- some of it is corrosive and some isnt, and some of it is just plain nasty. those are pretty much your only choices in surplus for the -06.

oh, the only problem with the danish is it is berdan primed which is not reloading friendly.

Not too long ago I bought some Korean made 30.06 to the tune of a couple of dollars a 20 round box.

It shoots well and the brass is reloadable.

But I haven't found any true mil surp ammo.

I have over 1,000 precision hand loads and the 1903A3s love 'em. Oh, so accurate!

danish is the closest thing to match grade ammo you'll find in surplus 30-06, although like anything else some guns love it and some hate it.

While not surplus ammo, I was wondering If anyone knows how the Olympic, Igman, and Wolf ammo performs?
They go for a fair price as far as price is concerned.
Have you ever shot them lefty o?

I'm not sure about 30-06 but the Wolf '54R ammo uses copper washed steel cases, not lacquered.
Olympic-brass case, non-corr.,berdan
Igman (aka:Hotshot) brass-case,non-corr., boxer (cases are inconsistent-flash holes off-center, neck thickness varies, etc.)
Barnaul (aka:generic Russian) lacquered steel case, non-corr.,berdan
Talon brass cased, non-corr.,boxer , good brass
FNM Indep brass cased, non-corr, boxer
PMC mil-surp brass cased, non-corr, berdan
Korean mil-surp brass cased, corr., berdan
Danish mil-surp brass cased, non-corr, boxer
Maine Cartridge Co. brass cased, non-corr., boxer
Sellier and Belloit brass cased, non-corr., boxer

There are about a gazillion more but these are just what I found through personal experience or in Shotgun News.
