Thumbs up Hunting Permit !!

:assult: :assult: :assult: :assult: :assult:

I just came from the DRN, I picked up the papers to solicit a hunting permit here in PR, I'll have to fill the usual affidavit, medic cert, get the good conduct cert from the local PD, 2 Photos 2"x2", copy of my current firearms license, and $25.00 to process the whole thing.

They told me that I got to take a course (what can and what can't be hunted, seasons, ect.) and I should be a licensed hunter in about 60 days !

I still have to get the PC Gun for this activity, 'cause all the evil guns that I got aren't permited for hunting.

I'll have to get a S/G with at least 24" BBl and not capable of acepting more than 3 rnds at any given time.

I was thinking on getting a Moss 500 28" bbl and use a plug to comply, I got tons of accesories for this gun 'cause the 590 got me to buy lots of things for it.

Any suggestions for another compliant gun would be appreciated.

Mandy...your hunting requirements are stiffer than in my state of Missouri. The gun course might be worthwhile for many of us periodically, even though we've been using hunting guns for quite a while. Reviewing hunting and safety rules are always worth the effort. They're only required for minors here in Missouri.

As far as what gun to use...that all depends upon the game you're after. Let us know and we'll comment, I'm sure.

Unhappy Sad it is but is the only thing I can do legally

:assult: :assult: :assult: :assult: :assult:

Well, no big game here, the biggest are just hogs and goats in some aprooved hunting grounds, also there's some dove hunting and after the course, I'll let you know what else can be hunted here.

As for guns, no rifles or handguns, just S/G with the specs provided before, all accesories are allowed, as long as you don't have a semiauto, in that case, you're confined to allmost the stock Out Of The Box configuration.

...and we thought our gun laws are strict!

Guess you have enough plugs in your S/G mag. to make it legal. You could be facing using slugs for larger game and heavy buckshot for smaller game. Let us know what you learn from your coursework.

Mandy, if your going Dove hunting, a nice 26' 28 inch barrel with choke tubes or a nice O/U with full and modified will do. A good Dove load is just the old standard Win. double AA's 2 3/4- 1 1/8 8 shot...easy load so you can shoot birds all day...LOLLLLLL Good luck on getting your shotgun...I started out with a Mossberg pump myself, never had any problems with it and shot the XXXX out of it.......you said you could not use a semi-auto......you can shoot a pump just as fast as an auto....I like pump shotguns, I think they make a better shooter out of you.....for Doves I like my O/U the best though...Good Luck....Be Safe..and Good Hunting......Lady Di

Mandy,
You can take about anything on earth with the Mossberg. My son is shooting groups that stay on a paper plate at 40 ~50 yards with the standard "bird" barrel and foster slugs. I put some tru-glow sites on the rib and groups shrink a bit. They gice a bit better rear site than your eye.

I like a 26" barrel for genral purpose hunting. 28" tubes are nice for trap shooting and swinging on birds, albeit a bit heavy for a days worth of dove shooting.

I thought of modifying your 590, but the 6 shot tube would hinder putting a standard barrel on the gun.

If you like the Mossy go for it! Little things like knowing where the safety is, familiar weight & balance are important in hunting too.

A bit of trivia; Did you know the Mossberg pump action is based on the venerable Remington Model 31. The 31 was the model previous to the 870.

Now, if your interested in a different gun, taking advantage of being able to buy another gun. The worl is your oyster. There are plenty of good ones out there. Just depends on your taste.

Good hunting,
Jerry

Thumbs up

Ahh Missy it's so refreshing to hear from you!

I'm thinking on the 28" ribbed bbl 'cause the longer bbl and all the mossy acc I got, like a couple of folding stocks, scope and base, ect.

I'll see that I get the recomeded chokes, probably will have to order it from the local gun shop.

After some experience, I can get a better quality more expensive gun, this may be for starting in the sport and grow in it.

Good to hear from you also Mandy, one of these days I will come down there and go Dove hunting with you. 28' barrel is a good choice, thats what most of mine are, except for 30' for trap shooting, but for birds and skeet 28' is good...as you can get a good swing with a 28' barrel....let us know if ...when you get your limit.... take those little breasts and wrap them with bacon and pineapple and put them on the barbie.... very tasty.... i believe that hunting permits are a good thing! without them managing game populations would be impossible. but does the state absolutely have to just bend ya over and rape you like they do?!!! theres no reason any permit should cost over 5 to 10 bucks period! its rediculous! now hunting liscence is a big huge frickin waste of time and energy and all it is is another source of income for the state! friend of mine just bought his lifetime liscence a while back i dont remember the exact price but it was upwards of 800 bucks!!!!

...and the good news in MO is that at 65 yrs old and older a person doesn't have to buy a hunting/fishing license. Still they're required to buy special permits like deer permits and for other special game. I qualified last year.
