What's Your Favorite Source of Unfired Brass

I'll be handloading for my 22-250 soon, and wonder if you folks would share your favorite manufacturer of unfired brass and why you prefer that brand?

i buy remington cases a 100 at a crack. federal brass is sometimes a little soft, and it usually costs a little more to buy 2-50 pc packs of winchester brass. so thats why i choose remington.

i used to swear by remington, but after a bad batch i got i switched to winchester brass and found it to be alot more reliable. so thats all i reload now for my rifles. for my revolvers and my pistol caliber carbine rifles i use remington still cause i bought a large ammount of it and i also use winchester. but when the remington pistol brass wears out it will also be replaced by winchester. i dont know for sure what it is but the winchester brass seems thicker or is just a denser brass?...i dont know? but it holds up a heck of alot better. the calibers i reload are 30.06 6.5x55 7.62x54 30calcarbine 357 magnum 38special and 41rem magnum. i do load most of my shells hot and i can guarantee you that the winchester brass will last longer than the remington. i have no experiance with others so i cant give any opinion on them.

RetiredOne,

to me it depends on what I'm reloading and what I intend the reloads for.

If the reloads are, say, 9MM, .40, .45 ACP plinkers, I'll scrounge just about any decent case, regardless of the brand, and reload what I can get, including used brass.

If, on the other hand, I am reloading precision rifle rounds I'll spend money and buy good new brass.

My precision rounds are not for competition or the likes but are precision only in my terms that they are inherantly more accurate and more consistant than, say, good commercial loads.

Because my precision rounds are used only for my personal use I will generally use Winchester, R-P or Remington and for money reasons I stay away from Lapau, Norma and the likes.

I am about to load some 7.62X25 and will go with Starline, as Shaun suggests.

New brass for the 6.5x55 and 8mm is nothing but Winchester. I've had the best luck with it at least in those two calibers.
There is a big difference between brands and some of my last attempts reloading the scrounged brass collected at the range resulted in terrible accuracy and some split cases, especially in 8mm. I dont scrounge it anymore!

The best rifle brass I've used is Norma. It's not avalible for everything but I got 300 rds of 6.5-284 to make 6-284's with. They sorted out into three lots of +/- .2 grain by wt, and the neck runout was +/- .001 on 288 of them. The flash holes are drilled instead of punched(no burrs). They cost $61 per 100 but I thought it was well worth it. I agree with Shawn on Starline for all my pistol brass.

I order brass from MIDWAY....most calabers.....handgun stuff Ive ordered from some once fired brass places with mixed results... but the stuff from midway (except their once fired 45acp, 9mm) you can chose from makers..remington, winchester, starling and even some weatherby calaber stuff....vever had reson to wimper about the stiff they send me...all seems to work well.

Hello all, my name is Scott Dabbs and I'm from Tennessee Colony, Texas. I recently left my job as a Corrections Officer for the State of Texas, so that I could concentrate on my own business. I process fired brass and resell it on eBay. I've just recently opened my online store, Gray and Blue Brass Company, on eBay. I sell 9mm Luger, 40 S&W, .223 Remington and 7.62x39 Russian. I will be selling .308 Winchester, .45 Auto and .38 Special in the next few days. If you want please visit my store at http://www.stores.ebay.com/grayandbluebrasscompany . Thank you.

I keep hearing that many have changed from Remington cases to Winchester for various reasons. I was going to form some 7.7 cases from Remington 30/06 cases like I have in the past but think I will give winchester a try. I go to a range over in Mississippi to pick up brass that is left behind. Have taken home up to 400 cases at one time of all calibers. Real good cheap once shot brass! I have cases stuffed in all kinds of places. Gettting to think about it is time to go back for a few more hundred cases!
