While at the hotel chilling out in the evening I got a chance to have some plesent conversations with British Tourist.....After the talks I realy considered moveing to London to start a life of crime ....its so much safer than crossing the street here Here is some of the highlights.

Talking about dogs....I was walking the Rotie...according to a dog lover from england....IF someone breaks in to your home...and your dog bites the crook...you get "FINED"...a police issue FINE...ie ticket...and court date....PLUSS the crook can sue you....and thats if its a little lap dog...have a Big dog like my rotie...and it bites a crook and you may end up in JAIL..The dogs owner...for haveing a dangrous dog that bit a person breaking into YOUR home...you go to jail....not a guest...post man...meter maid...a crook.


Firearms....you have to have a LICENSE to purchase a B.B (pelet) gun....and strict rule about them....Bring a toy gun from say Disney world back to englan..it gets confincated...no if's ands or buts.

USE OF FORCE...this was a long conversation over a few drinks (Wife drinking not me )....in any case...you wake up...and as you look up from your bed...Im standing there, loading up your stuff in a bag....you hit me....throw something at me...poke me with your cane...you get a FINE and court date for (best I can describe it..but not actual charge) assult..but a lesser degree...you get fined and a court date..like a speeding ticket on the spot....pluss court...and the crook can sue.

IF you use a sword, knife..bat then YOU the homeowner who woke up with the crook in his/her bedroom...get charged with big time assult...in between assult and attempted murder....YOU not the crook.

And if you pulled an NRAJOE and unloaded a few clips from your AK .....better save a few rounds for yourself....cause you getting big time prison sentence.

OK...so what about the criminals....welp like us Juvinals get slap on wrist...system seemed pretty close in that respect....but for the most part sentences are pretty short...and the citizens think way too short....like 1-2 yrs for burglery....stuff like that.

I read an article about this same thing once. In most of europe the penalties are much lighter than here for most crimes. The opinion of the force issue is that most burglars in Europe are kinder gentler crooks that dont use violence much in thier neffarious activities, unlike here where they would just as soon shoot you as look at you, at least thats what I read , dont know how much truth there is in it. Also European jails are just that, hard time and very harsh, unlike our resorts, they place a lot of emphasis on paying for your crime and the jails are really tough, and the lawyers have no say in your treatment, well again thats what I read, so dont know.

In some ways they have wayyy more freedom than we do and in some ways they do not.
In Germany they can have switchblade knives and hard liquer is sold in every gas station.
No speed limits on the autobahn in some places.
but then you can go to jail if you flip off another driver or drive slowly in the left lane.
in Denmark if you get in to a bar fight they take you in to the drunk tank ya pay your $53 fine in the morning and they let you out in time so you can go to work and thats it, The end of the issue.
Here if you yell at someone thats a 4th degree asault and you can do a up to a Year in State Prison, With out ever touching them at all........ its called "verbal assault"
The punishments in Europe reflect the underlieing value they still have for every one of their citizens.
Here if you are accused of a crime everyone "just knows" you are guilty reguardless of how silly it is
there are a great many give and takes when it comes to laws between here and europe and there are variations from country to country
in Germany it is legal to own short shotguns.
Mossberg, Winchester and Remington make wayy short pistol grip pump shotguns that only hold 3 shells (with one chambered)
In Denmark ya cant have a sword unless it is mounted to a back board to the wall.
So are we the land of the free?
only in some ways.
We could never never have the autobahn here, people would not cooperate to make it work.

I thing the most contributory legislation to our unhappyness in recient years has been the outlawing of the good ol fist fight.

The fist fight did a lot of good things for our society
it kept drunks in line and enforced Mannors and curtesy
it kept people from saying bad things to strangers.
it kept teenagers from acting up too much.
it kept bums from encroaching on casual sidewalk cafe diners.
When we lost the ability to have a fist fight we lost a lot.
now American society has an anger just seething under the surface. as the prison sentances grow and grow getting to the point of becoming silly
some idiot doese something stupid and gets life in prison for it?
its a two edged sword some times they get to much or not enough.
and the Family needs "closure" What the Hell Is That?
a good old fist fight can give a person a hell of a lot of "closure"
Win or loose (thats kinda hard to determine most times)
it generally settles most small stupid confrontations.
if they let the outlawed fist fight come back I think we would be a better country.
