| Guest | 1968 thru 1985, and ammo any one here old enough to remember the bad old days of the Gun Control Act of 1968??? the law prohibited non-dealers from ordering ammo, and reloading components. we had to go thru a dealer, who may or may not be willing to order small orders of ammo or components. the 4 major elements in any cartridge could only be gotten thru a dealer, no ifs ands or buts. |

Trader Rating: (0) | No, I missed that but, while a boy, in Mississippi, I was forced to sign for ammo and produce ID at the time of purchase. Don't know if it's still the same there but, I like to order through the shotgun news and have it shipped to my door. Cases of 7.62X39 and .223 and 12ga. and 22 are just too heavy to tote around at the show. :right:

| Moderator ![]() | I remember having to sign the danged book when buying ammo at K-mart - even .22LR and shotshells! Stupid. Also, the C&R market is better in recent years than it ever was back then. We're in "the good ol' days" of gun ownership right now. It's never been better, and will never get better. Even looking at prices from way back then . . . Colt 1911A1 for $155 in '76, AR-15 for about $350, same for the AKS. But just think, that was real money back then! I made about $1200 a month in the USAF, and that had to pay for off-base house rental, food, utilities, etc. Precious little left over for the loud toys!

| Senior Member | I also remember signing for the ammo. Many convenience stores here use to sell 22 and shotgun shells. Kinda funny nowadays...I'll take a box of 12 gauge and the cash out of the register.... |
