Another stupid school district

I saw this article this morning and it ticked me off now I am going to draft one of my letters and send the school and the district my thoughts regarding thier stupidity. PLease look them up and write them with your thoughts.

LONDONDERRY, N.H. -- The school board has voted to ban a photo of a student from the senior section of his high school yearbook because he is posed with a shotgun.

Shotgun Yearbook Photo 101304Londonderry, N.H. senior Blake Douglass posed with his shotgun in this photo he submitted for his high school yearbook photo released by his attorney Penny Dean. But Tuesday's unanimous vote also backed a compromise: Blake Douglass can have the photo published in a "community sports" section, and a new photo -- without the gun but featuring other elements of skeet and trap shooting -- can appear in the seniors' section of the Londonderry High School yearbook.

The compromise wasn't good enough for Douglass, who wanted his senior photo in traditional sportsman's pose, wearing an oxford shirt, navy vest and holding the shotgun over his shoulder.

"I don't see anything wrong with the picture," Douglass, 17 said at the hearing. "I just want my senior picture in the yearbook."

Last month the yearbook staff, adviser, principal and superintendent chose to bar the photo from the yearbook, saying the firearm was inappropriate.

Penny Dean, Douglass' lawyer, said she intends to file a complaint in U.S. District Court, and said the National Rifle Association will pay for the court case.

Dean cited a statement on student publications in the board's policy manual: "We encourage the use of school sponsored publications to express students' points of view. They shall be free from all policy restrictions outside the normal rules for responsible journalism."

That's stupid.....It's a good classy photo. It's no different than the QB posing with a helmet and a football.

No kidding. It is clearly a sporting shotgun he is holding. If it was a stockless pitol-grip shotgun I might be more sympathetic with the school, but it is a single-shot breakbarrel shotgun, obviously designed exclusively for sporting.

The kid should have told them that he was holding the shotgun by the barrell and it was bent to represent a non functioning gun, because it's an "antigun" photo, the libs probably would have thought it was wonderful. It's a classy good taste pose photo. But what do you do if they let this photo in this year and next year a new guy is wearing camo, has a pistol grip shotgun with an extra ammo sling attached and he's snearing at the camera?

Funny how thi skid can't pose with a broken open shotgun but Kerry can point a semi-auto over a crowd and it's so special.

I hate what public schools have become. We have Guns & Ammo and Field and Stream magazines in our school library, but only because our principal hasn't visited the library in the two years he's been working at the school.
