Judge Throws Party for Man Then Jails Him for Life
Judge Throws Party for Man Then Jails Him for Life :ballons: :ballons: "PA"
A Texas judge welcomed fugitive back to her court, throwing him a party that included balloons and a cake. Then, she sent him to prison for life.
“You just made my day when I heard you had finally come home,” Dallas Judge Faith Johnson told Billy Wayne Williams, who was captured last week after nearly a year on the run.
Williams, who was accused of choking his girlfriend until she was unconscious, failed to appear for his November trial and was convicted and sentenced in his absence.
Johnson sentenced Williams to life in prison for aggravated assault.
But the send-off failed to cheer Williams up.
“It seems like everyone wants to have a party, and it’s fun for you people, but not for me,” Williams said as he was led away in handcuffs.
Williams has a lengthy criminal record and has used numerous aliases to elude authorities.
Before Williams was brought into the courtroom, Judge Johnson directed gleeful courtroom staff members as they placed balloons and streamers around the courtroom. A colourful cake was decorated with “Welcome Home Billy Ray Williams.”
“We’re so excited to see you, we’re throwing a party for you,” Johnson told the fugitive.
oh thats rich.
Convicted in abstensia
and a party too...........
the guy may have been a real prig but to lower the court to such personal vindictiveness.
Diminishes the courts credibility.
When a judge appears to have lost their impartiality
they have NO credibility and just become someone abusing their power.
Probably well deserved, but even the lowest ambulance chaser is going to fins some grounds to appeal this case on. Then the taxpayers pay for another trial.

LOL..yeah...only in Texas I guess. But I think that while it is humorous, ya'll are correct in that it kind of makes a mockery of the court. Probably be thrown out or retried. The guy sounds like a three strike and you're out kind of guy though so that's probably why he got chunked for life.

it seems that he was convicted in abstensia because he was too busy running from the law. what was he running from. could it be that he is going to be the only guilty person in prison?
Doglips...thanks for making your post. That clears up some questions I had after watching the TV news report on that subject yesterday evening. At that time I was puzzled why the killer was being given a party. It seemed out of order. But now I can see that it was strictly a judge with a great sense of humor at the expense of the killer and the judge was just rubbing it in his face.
i think it was a way of dealing with the stress of the situation..gallows humor is common in courts..but not realy publicy displayed....but this dirtbag deserves to fry...so why not enjoy the moment.
Not only should it not be taken lightly, but it shows that the people who sentenced him were already against him instead of being unbiased. That's a huge abuse of power and against what our government was founded on.

he was convicted and evaded arrest -- no need for being touchy feely having the party was just fine --he is a criminal and therefore should be handled as trash celebrating his return is proper in this case.
There's a difference between breaking the law and being punished (which is his senstence) and being treated like an animal. That's a sin what they did. We've all done things wrong, and it would suck if other people celebrated our demise because of them. What he did was wrong, but so is their reaction.

Texas...while other states are doing away with the death penalty...texas is putting in an "express lane"!
wish they would set up the express lane here we need to start carrying out the executions within a period of time that makes the penalty a deterant. I am still for a madatory 3 appeals but they must be completed within 24 months of the initial sentencing.
