Question on differences between 870 and 870 Magnum

Hey,
I have had my 20 870 Express for about a year now and just noticed yesturday that its a 20ga 870 Express Magnum. What is the difference between a Magnum and a "non Magnum"?
Thanks,
Chris

I could be wrong but I think the 'Magnum' will shoot 2 3/4" and 3" shells while the 'Super Magnum' will shoot those plus 3 1/2" shells. I've never seen a new 870 non magnum

True,
870 magnum is good for 3" & 2 3/4"

This baffled me for a long time on my 12 ga. There is something different not apparent to the naked eye. The non-magnum reciever and mafnum reciever appear to be identical in size, ejection port and all. I upgraded the barrel on my 870 to a LC & though that I'd get 3" capability as well. I was advised not to do it, but never got a good explaination as far as why.

The Magnum will read "Magnum" on the side of the reciever.

Unless it's a pretty old 20 ga, you will run into Magnum recievers primarily.

Yeh, the gun is pretty much brand new, not even a year old. I was just putting on a new sight yesturday and looked down and read "Magnum" on the reciever. . . Darn, I thought I had something special :uzi:
Thanks,
Chris

Don't feel bad, you have one of the most well made shotguns of all time. I bought one a year ago, and I'm pretty sure it'll out last my hunting days and i'm only 22

Yeah, thats why I bought an 870. Heard they will last a lifetime if not longer.
