Mega-14

Tony Rumore of Tromix.com has now converted a Ruger Mini-14 to the great 458 SOCOM Monster round.

http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.htm...f=121&t=205577

I think I may have found my Griz Gun. I was planning on an AR-15 in 458 SOCOM or an AR-10 in 450 Marlin, but as much as I'm not a huge fan of the Mini, this would be far far far better suited for hunting. Though the AR system is very accurate, the Ruger carbine would be better suited for the harsh weather of the northern wilderness. Also, the hunting stock profile is better for carrying and snap-shooting than the high barrel axis AR config.

When hunting things that bite back, semi's are not the first choice. They have been known to let you down when the SHTF. It'll get you killed. But then again some people like to feed the bears.

That is true of SOME semis, not all. While the Mini's accuracy sucks, it's not bad at all with reliability when used with the proper magazine. With the ban gone we should see better magazines for it, and I have yet to read of an inaccurate gun by Tromix.

I qwas also thinking, if the 50 AE has the same rim as the 44 rem Mag, suppose a Ruger 44 carbine could be redone in 50 AE? Would this be more or less affordable than something in 50 Beowulf that would work in a 223/7.62x39 action?

I would buy a USED Ruger, so that the money doesn't go to Ruger. I thus far have one used Ruger (bought before I knew about their politics.)

They do a few things right, supporting RKBA just isn't one of them.
