Thumbs up My Poor Neighbors

You know that some of us tend to come up with some doozies from time to time. Since I've been out of pocket for a while I decided that it's time for a project - SO, I'm building a black powder cannon.
One of the guys that puts on a local MG shoot here twice a year has one he built and MAN does that thing thump. I'm hoping to get in some quality shop time this weekend and finish the barrel assembly. This one is going to be approx 4 feet long with a 1 and 11/16 inch bore, 1 inch wall thickness at the muzzle and 1 1/2 inch thick at the chamber area (the proper bore size to launch golf balls). Based on some info I've seen on the net, this one should launch a golf ball 600 to 1000 feet! AND it should produce a better bang than a bottle of tannerite! I'll get some pics together soon for you guys, I'm thinkin this is gonna be fun!

I fully expect BR to want to engineer a freeky conversion to some ungodly pistol caliber and NO Joe, an AK version will not be available! :joker:

Max nice to see you again -- morgan is building one now in a 1" bore and plans on using Cast lead balls for ammo. If you want a Gball launcher they are easy to make you should see the one we fit to an 06' with blanks -- I have fired the ball through 3/4 planks and it kept going to never be found again

Heck, I'd love to be your neighbor. First shot, I'd be calling to see if I could watch

I've made several small replicas on original patterns downsized. I highly recommend doing a wee bit more work to make it an authentic reproduction. They can be real beauties.

Talking

saw a segment of The American Shooter about guys and their Civil War cannons, good stuff.

best was the muzzle loading mortars that were made of bronze, when they were touched off the mortars rang like a bell!!!

Actually BR I've got a piece of brass stock that I am planning on turning into a naval style gun - probably about 14" long, 3/4" bore. It will be a representative scale, not exact with a black walnut carriage, brass wheels etc. I agree, they're pretty when they're done up right! Besides, the smaller one will be more user (neighbor) friendly for yard use!
