Lifespan - Which pistol will last the longest?

Hey people, just wanting your viewpoints on the longest lasting pistol without breaking down?

I know Glock is going to be one of the pistols listed, I just was wondering if anyone had any comments on other manufactuers, being that I'm anti-glock for now, and granted, I need to give Glock another chance in my hands :-)

Also, Does Magnum Research/IMI Baby Eagle .45 and EAA Witness Target .45 have a increased life span over "american" pistols?

List your babies and the estimated rounds through them :-)

I know guys that have had the Ruger .22 pistols for years and have never stripped them down - just flush 'em out with (shudder . . . ) WD40, or some other spray cleaner, then a drop of oil in the right places.

You could probably do that with the Hi-Points too.

All my handguns get stripped and cleaned regularly. I like to get intimate with them!

Hahaha, I just slide the barell off, wipe it down real good with some nitro/bore cleaner, tooth brush all I can, wipe some more, rem-oil (aerosol) it, and then about 2 days later, wipe away all the seeping oils, :-)

I guess after you put $200-1000 worth of ammo through a $500 gun, not the worst thing to hear it's not functioning properly :-)

Thumbs up

Forgot to list my "babies".
1. Colt 1991A1 (bought about 1994) - probably three thousand rounds now. I don't shoot the handguns as much as I should.
2. Ruger Security Six .357 Magnum - 1200 rounds, mostly .38 Special.
3. Maadi Cadet 9mm (Helwan civvie model) - 400 rounds.
4. CZ52 in 7.62X25 - 150 rounds (need to get a case of ammo!).
5. Star Super in 9mm Largo - 150 rounds (ditto).
6. Three cap&ball revolvers - two 1851 Navy's and an 1860 Army.
7. Whitney Wolverine .22 semiauto - fifties classic!
8. Browning Buckmark .22 semiauto.
9. Tanfoglio .22WMR western revolver (a cheapo but goodie!) Granddad of the Heritage Roughrider.

Got three pellet pistols too. I like to cover all the bases!

For a non-Glock semi-auto the best one that I've heard about so far is the Springfield XD. I haven't shot one but know three guys that own them (two .40's and a 9mm). They all have several thousand rounds through them with no stoppages whatsoever and the one that I saw disassembled showed practically no wear.

I honestly can't see anyone wearing out a quality sidearm unless they shoot to practice for every competition that comes along :gangster: I believe Glock has the record though

I think as for as best pistol that will take abuse/neglect and keep working ..wont rust..no hassels...Id say any of my hi-point pistols.....they are made of some aloy that wont rust..even here in florida...all most no moveing parts in the slid...just the fireing pin...spring and slide so not much to not work

The cz 52 I have is old..been used alot by me and the place it came from...and has certinly held up great.

MY Taurus 99 9mm auto and Taurus 357 trackerhas held up exalently in florida and with little maintance.

Worst pistol EVER Ruger Super Redhawk in 454...I hate the quality...poor design cylinder (know prbole with super stuck cases due to metal its made from expanding too much)...worst customer service ever.... the pistol sucks worse than my spelling. If I could get half of what I paid for that pistol Id sell it to know Arab terrorist (because there is no way they could hurt people with that POS).....ok rant over

Im with Logansdad. I have never been able to afford enough ammo to wear out any of my quality hand guns. I love 1911's and except for replacing springs occasionally and one extractor, I have never worn out even the cheep ones I have owned. I also love Ruger rimfires and single actions. Have owned quite a few and never really had any kind of major problems.
Doglips, I never really liked the Redhawk for some reason either, and never owned one. I do own two old and trusted Security sixes and an SP101. No problems here either. Im a little surprised by your problem with customer service. On the couple times I have called them, once for a faulty base pin and once for a spring that I lost, they sent replacements right away. No questions asked, and no charge. Cant beat that with a stick. Im sorry your experience has not been as good.

No Biggie Popgun...sometimes even the best company makes a lemon...Im sure their other firearms are better.....but its a stone in my craw to pay big $$ for a junk pistol...if it was a cheaper firearm I would have tossed it into the safe and forgot about it and the problems...but a 700$ junk gun has been one of thouse things that makes me rant and rave...probly more than needed....but its like NRAJOE when someone scrabes off his I voted for bill clinton bumper sticker ....makes me wimper and whine

I have a Springfield XD-9. 3000 rounds through it so far and no appreciable sign of wear. The guide rod/spring assembly takes the impact when fired and the slide goes back. Then on return, the barrel and slide take the impact on two small spots right above the chamber. Only result on that is they are shiny there.

The things you have to watch for in a semi-auto is frame cracking and slide cracking. I have heard as long as you don't shoot +P ammo, it shouldn't be a problem.

I also have a Taurus 9MM but don't think it's the gun the Springfield is.
