our swat teams for the city and the county do use the savage tactical. a few guys have custom guns but all the dept owned ones are savages.
and i don't want a 22-250 to loud for where i shoot, i was just adding my opion.
i am a big fan of the 308 though so if i had to get another one it would be in 308.
my sako actioned browning 243 will do a 1 1/2 group with hand loads at 300. but its way to nice to drag around in the brush and lay on the ground with. so it stays home safe and sound. ( was dads first rifle ) it doesn't get much use any more and when it does i even put a blanket over the shooting bags on the bench.
one of the smoothes actions i have ever had, i agree the action on ny savage is rough, but i have a shot block in it and shoot it single shot. one of teh smoothest actions i have seen lately is on a tika whit tail not the new "junked out " T3. theses are realy smooth. still looking for one in 308. hard to come by now. the new T3 is one standard length with a block in the mag for the shorter actions. i for one think that this cheapened the rifle and "junked it out" for me.
i'm taking it you dought that my tactical will do a 1" group at 300. well, i'm shooting a hand loaded 69 grn match king bullet at 2830 fps with a 24.5 grn compressed load of IMR 4895. my triger has been worked to a 1 pound pull. and my action has been beded.
i'm useing a buris 4x16 scope and these shots are made from a soild bench with both front and rear bags. and yes i only try these shots when the wind is down and the weather is good. its not like its an every time deal. but i have used this load to shoot chucks at over 600 yards from a solid rest (the portable bench in the back of the pick-up) with bags.
i would say if you have a hart bbl and a sako action with a 3 oz. triger you need to try different loads if it won't hold a 1" at 300. that gun should do it with no problem.
