Navy Must Be Hard Up

Got an email today from the Navy Reserves wanting me to join and become a Seabee. At 45 and never having been in any of the armed services branches I find it unusaul that they would be asking be to join up.

At 45, bootcamp would be a real PITA! Kinda fun when you're young&stupid.

Be a pain too, all those young squids calling you "pops" or "Grandad".

Good thing is, you'd be a shoe-in for Squad Leader.

Had a friend in the Seabees in Vietnam. He learned to build bridges over water really fast...while being shot at. Then he got to see the same bridges get blown up. :jaw:

While I would enjoy meeting new people and going to new and exotic places. It is the bullet catching thing that bothers me.

Really, I'm to old to be running around parade grounds and climbing obstacle courses. It would literally kill me before I ever would ship out. And besides, what I really want to do in the Navy they would never let an old fart like me do. And that is become an armourer for the Phalanx system and the like.

I'm sure you guys understand that those bridges were blown up by the Cong as our forces moved forward at times and backwards at other times. Doubt if they'd consider this as making work. Seabees were caught in the crossfire not by choice, though. They were a group who deserved much more credit than they received. :right:
