They will still probably have a enough time to beat you to death with a baseball bat in the intervening seconds. Firearms, expecially handguns, stop people because they're painful and scary. I'm so sick of the 9mm vs. .45 argument: X BULLET DOES MORE TISSUE DAMAGE. That is so God !!!! irrelevant to stopping an attack. Unless you blow his medula oblongata out or destroy the spine above his arms, he's still going to be able to shoot back, hit you, beat you with a crowbar etc if he feels likely. The point of the bullet is to make him not feel like it. Many people will lose interest in clubbing you to death when you shoot them with a handgun that can deliver significant penetration (9mmx19 and up) because the sucking feeling in their chest and the burning holes are quite distracted. But make no mistake, those bullets have done jack !!!! to actually disable someone. Average human males beings deliver far more energy with a punch than a .454 Raging Bull or 12 gauge at point blank range. To equal the force of a good haymaker you have to go up to around 10gauge double barreled fired simeultaneously. This is why a good whack from a crowbar or a kick can cave in someone's face, ribs or knee but a bullet will tend to just make a nasty hole but leave the person relatively functional (if they feel like functioning). Until you get into the .30 rifles you really don't have any chance of rapid incapacitation, and even most of those shots stop people (in the short term) just because they feel so bad. The objective of a combat rifle is to remove a person long-term, thus 30-06 is better for the job than 5.56 or .357 magnum. However in a typical self-defense scenario the object is to stop the person short term by making him in pain, and for that anything of about 130g or more with a good 1000fps velocity is going to do the trick in most situations. It wouldn't be bad to have, for example, a .357 magnum or such but the difference this actually makes is probably minimal unless you get a lucky shot. If you really want to put someone down 00 Buck from a 12 gauge will #1 surprise them in the short term and #2 likely do so much organ damage to them so fast that they'll be dead or unconscious before they decide to retaliate.

Colt we see these types all the time -- if we want 1 stop shot statistics we can get them from the usual source FBI reviews of just such cases. IN this guys case he just seems to be throwing conclusions out with absolutely no real data to back anything up -- just an old arguement revisited.
Simple the best one shot stop is anything inflicting damage to the CNS whether it be from a 22 short to a howizter.

What the heck is a X bullet. As a guess it's cutting the tip of the bullet. Well I don't go around shooting people so I wouldn't want to mess up a perfectly good bullet that miss the target. Jus a point the guys that protect the Pres.are trained to shoot three times two in the chest and one in the head. Finished business!
Barnes makes an X bullet of solid copper I agree the SS has the best approach Isreali Failure drills are the best way 2 to the chest in case of armour a followup to the head.
LD, a 5"-54 is a naval gun, an exellent defense weapon - very very accurate at very long range. 5" is the bore diameter- 54 caliber(describes barrel length 54xbore diameter-22.5 foot barrel).
