ejecting brass and scopes

ok i just put a scope mount on my yugo, and i'm wondering what people experience is with brass hitting the scope? should i get a short like tactical scope, or does it really matter? i've seen those ejection shields, but i was wondering if i really needed that? i'm asking before i buy the scope, because i don't have alot of cash to buy a scope.

Some SKS owners get lucky - but I didn't. My Yugo does bounce brass off the bottom of a longer scope. Really dings it up too! It'll knock the adjustment out before long.
I would use a shorty scope for the SKS, but in all honesty, I find they shoot about as well unscoped. The Yugo benefits from a scope only if you close the gas valve and shoot as a bolt-action - without that reciprocating mass of the bolt, it can be quite accurate! You also wouldn't have the bolt slamming into the top cover, throwing the scope adjustment off.
If you use the regular length scope, then yes, the deflector is needed!
