MAS 49 cali legal ?

is the MAS 49 49/56 cali legal ? was going thru some auction and one guy says he won't sell to cali - that one didn't have a grenade launcher, had a 10 round detachable mag but under the law it's only "evil" if had a detachable magazine AND one of the evil features right ??

If I see another "no sales to california" in an ad I'm gonna 1. yell 2. start shooting

hope this is the right forum...

Exclamation

Organise your buddies and start yelling loud and long in Sacremento! Enough "concerned citizens" working together can change stupid laws.

The MAS 49 49/56 was considered an Assault Weapon, in the configurations it had before the Assault Weapon Registration period ended (Dec. 31, 1999). It is possible to have the rifle altered to conform to being a NON-Assault Weapon, and get DOJ approval to allow sales in California. However if it is in California, and not registered, that could be big trouble for whoever has it! It would have to be physically located outside California and modified outside California to get the California DOJ approval. This was done with the Yugoslavian SKS, some FN-FALs (fixing the magazine so it can't be removed without tools), and now may have been done on the MAS 49 49/56. California is far and away the biggest gun market in the USA for it not to be profitable to make at least simple alterations, this market for guns can't be ignored, as there is too much money ready to be spent on firearms.

NO AK-47 (or knock-offs), or AR-15 Series, can be altered and be acceptable by the California DOJ, the DOJ is very specific about that! The FAB-10 and a single shot lower have been the only exceptions for altered AR-15 type weapons, that are acceptable to the California DOJ.

The California DOJ rules can be found at the following web site:

yeah I guess the one I was looking at has an integral grenade launcher too - too bad no one mods them to conform to CA standards...I want that MAS 49/56 so bad I guess I'll just print out a photo and look at it when I feel like...is there a law against that too ? intent to possess an assault weapon or something ?

You may find an independent smith outside the state who would do the mods for you. I would if I had a license, it's simple enough, even if not pretty.

Well, technically, they could get you for conspiracy for having the photo or even for your post here. They can stick you with conspiracy for whatever they BELIEVE you intend to do, regardless of your true intentions, and they just have to persuade the jury. Since there is absolutely NO WAY with our modern technology to truthfully assess someone's intent BEFOREHAND, I see the conspiracy charge as one of the greatest threats to law abiding citizens in the United States, because they have so much leeway with it.

It's a shame that we truthfully can be convicted of things we haven't even done yet, and have to fear talking about them- jokingly or otherwise.

I don't think the framers of the Constitution intended such a gross perversion of the judiciary to become commonplace.

Ever see Minority Report?

From this it follows that any people you meet from time to time are merely the product of a deranged imagination.

yup - Minority Report sounds about right.
Ever see Demolition Man ? No one possesses arms in the future, everything is government controlled, no one knows what to do when there's crime, and you get tickets for saying "sh*t". Oh yeah, and all restaurants are taco-bells :insane:
Also, there's an Arnold Schwarzenegger prez library :insane:
