I'm getting laid off permanently Mon 13th. Was figuring on doing the un-employment thing for 3-4 months unless something decent came along that I couldn't turn down. Well it turns out where my wife works (State of Ohio Mental Hospital as a transcriptionist $16.90 an hour) they have an opening for Security Officer 1 at a Starting rate of $13.91 with overtime available and State bennies. There would probably be times we work the same shift...I already told her when that does happen we are driving separate!
I got a feeling she'll be calling me and bugging me while I'm working...she can screw off as long as she wants as long as she gets whats asked of her done.
I'm turning 46 next month and got to get 20 in for a pension plan SOON to supplement SSI when I retire....
Would YOU work where your wife does? Am I asking for trouble?

only trouble i see is that the staff may mistake you for a patient!!!
go for it Joe, least it will be better than UnempComp. at 46 your too old to do much else. but HR's call that overqualified in their dialect to avoid lawsuits. it sucks but ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

I believe this is all moot anyways...she gets confused between "Security Officer" and "Police Officer"...just checked the codes...opening is for "Police Officer 1"....need the "Ohio Peace Officer Training course" because you give out tickets...file affidavits...serve warrants...etc.

I'll try...never know...told her to keep an eye peeled for housekeeping there...at least I wouldn't be tackling 6'5" Bubbas in the hallways when they snap!

Shoulda fixed the Brown Bomb and drove that around!

Hey Joe you do what you have to do. I have had to bite the bullet many times and part with my firearms. I love my wife dearly and I know you do too. God Bless You Joe and Eileen.
Alan Cutshall.
My wife and I both worked in the same career field...but not for the same employer. Had lots of things in common to talk about.
But...I don't think it's generally a good idea for man and wife to work for the same employer. Definitely one should not work as a subordinate to the other. This puts both in very uncomfortable positions at times when discussions occur of which you don't want to hear or participate. And...if the company goes down, etc., this puts both out of work at the same time.
But..."a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do" to put beans on the table. Sometimes things don't work out ideal, so you get a job just to keep from going too broke waiting for the ideal job to come along.

Joe check and airport you could work for TSA -- otherwise you could head down this way CCA is looking for guards all the time for the Private run prisons
you could set an example for others on how to handle folks carrying unloaded firearms and perhaps educate other employees on how every gun owner is not a terrorist :right:
I work for the State of NC and it has its advantages and disadvantages. One of the advantages is that once you are "in the system" there's a great deal of job portability. State governments are like working for a massive company. Different jobs open up all over the place all the time and you are considered an "internal applicant". This means that you get first crack at an opening and priority for hiring. They may even count your military service towards your seniority as a state employee. I'm sure there are differences between OH and NC, but it's worth checking out with the hospital's HR department.
There's a married couple where I work. They are both professors. In the same department. They share an office.
