Got a note from my bud in Iraq

Says everything is going well -- Hoppe's told me about a mailable product which I am getting for him -- now I am putting together a care package. He says he only heard 5 shots on the election day and he classified those as celebratory

"The Hoppe's Elite technology was originally developed to clean the $28 million F-16 fighter for the US Air Force. Its special blend of chelating agents, corrosion inhibitors and surfactants safely penetrate the pores of metal through a non-toxic solvent base. In fact, a firearm treated with Hoppe's Elite is cleaner than when it shipped from the factory. Hoppe's Elite Gun Cleaner is made by Pantheon Chemical , the same company who manufactures M-Pro7 Gun Cleaner."

hmm..some serious claims - gotta try it I guess (justifies a trip to the gun store )

I talked to a freind of mine that got back in country from Iraq who is in the army reserve engineers, had some stories to tell, he was stationed at abu graib for 1 year, and told me some of the things that went on over there. One that I found amazing was the rules of engagement. For instance he manned the 50 on a duece and a half but was restricted from using it in urban enviornments, because of the penetration of the round. He said they were in a fire fight but could not get permission to use the ma deuce because of the dangers of hitting civies around the battle zone. and relied on thier 16s and 60s for suppresion, what the heck is that all about. also they could not fire unless fired on, even if the guy was toting an ak.He also said they got mortered almost every night. the insugents would daisy chain rockets and fire them in delay and would be long gone before they could return fire.He did say that 95 % of the Iraqies were glad they were there and would bring them hot meals. In the entire time he was there he never fired his 50 cal, but he said the insugents had respect for ma duece and would run like rabbits when he swung it around, crazy stuff. He also showed me some videos of a warthog taking out a machine gun position, and other neat vids, Ill ask him if I can post some of the pics over at joes but he didnt sound like he wanted for me to do that( security I geuss)

oh yeah I almost forgot, joe will like this. Part of thier job was ordinance disposal, and they worked on a depot that was 17 square miles of iraqi ammo!!!!, he says the entire country is one giant ammo dump. He said they estimated there was over 1 billion rounds of ak ammo alone in that one dump and I forget how many artillery rounds but it was mind boggling, and caches of hundreds of thousands of russian aks, whew, thats a lot of aks even for joe
