The police showed up here at 0045 hrs...spotlights shining all over the place...was starting to nod off...got out of the shack and asked whats up? They ask if this is so and so company...I sad yeah...they said the motion detector in the front offices went off...they need in. Had to hand him my card through the gate to let him in. I go chugging up to the outer front office door and wipe out on a patch of ice! Fell dead on my arse and pulled a leg muscle while going down...laying on the ground yelling then my company cell goes off...on call dispatcher wants to know whats going on? I'm trying to get up and talk at the same time telling the dispatcher that the police are here and I just wiped out! Had to drag my leg behind me to get to the office door...unlocked it...got inside and disarmed the system...I'm leaning against the wall trying not to scream and the police are walking around looking for any entry points. Its freezing rain out, they see no tracks so they leave the building. They gave the company a written warning about the alarm and said the next ones are charged from now on. My knee is swollen and my leg hurts like a bee-otch! Been getting up and walking on it every 5-10 minutes so it don't freeze up! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

Probably a danged cat snooping around. Too bad about the wipe-out - been there, done that! The alarm likely worked as it should - it's the cops with the crappy attitude!
Best wishes for your leg.
Sorry about both incidents, Joe. Reminds me of when I was director of operations for North Kansas City School District and the police issued me a ticket for them having to respond to too many false alarms. Hey...we had 29 schools involved so three false responses didn't seem like many to me...but there was a city ordinance stating that a citation would be issued after three false alarms.
Went to court, paid the fine for the district and tightened down on the custodians who were supposed to check out things better. They had failed to notice that a teacher had a string tied to a ceiling tile for some reason and when the HVAC fan came on this string motion set off the motion detector(s). And...when anything fluttered or moved, including birds which occasionally found their way inside the classroom, this would cause the motion detectors to sound off.
Don't get me wrong, because I definitely sympathize with police who have to spend their valuable time dealing with false alarms. It is a challange, though, to tighten down the building's environment so false alarms aren't sounded.
It feels better today...still sore though...gotta work 10 tonight and tomorrow then 3 off. If I was still getting laid off today like I was supposed to, I would of headed to the Medical Center for sure.
This alarm was their free warning...each additional one now goes up every $25 though the calendar year $25...$50...$75..etc...hope it goes off 100 times after I'm gone!

Joe,you should demand to see a workman's comp doctor,if they refuse you or treatment after seeing the doc,sue them through a workman's comp specialist attourney, worked for me!
Seems that a a heck of a lot of G&G members want to use lawyers a lot to solve their problems. Guess I came from a different school of thought. I'm more in favor of keeping those low life out of my life as much as possible. It's like giving them a performance rating simply by not employing them.
Now I also realize that I'm not living in someone else's shoes, etc., but I find it against my grain to consider making claims against an employer just to spite the company. Legitimate claims I have nothing against. That's part of the cost of a company's operating cost. Some businesses survive/some don't simply because they don't set up their business to protect their assets and become profitable. And...that includes allowing payments to employees who are not working...and have no legitimate claims for unemployment according to their work agreement, whether it be by union contract..or by management's mandated policy in a non-union business.
Ok...has that pixxed off some of you? Probably so...but there's more than one side of this issue. I've been on both sides and have found, in my experience, that "what's fair is fair", and "what goes around comes around."
