Old vs New Style 44 Carbine - Opinions, experiences?

I've thought it could be a nice convenient carbine, particularly due to its tubular mag (as opposed to the new model's rotary detachable mag.)

Any experiences with this bugger? I wanted one back in the ban days because its fixed mag would have made a folding stock legal. Now I just think it would be a nice rifle. Not super practical in my neck of the woods since semi-autos are not allowed for hunting, but it just seems nice. Any reason why Ruger switched to a Mini-14 type action and a detachable mag?

Might be nice if someone developed a higher capacity mag. Thoughts, anyone? Not sure how strong the action is, but since 50 AE was designed for 44 Mag weapons you think maybe a Ruger carbine could be converted to it? No real reason but for cool factor.

Just brainstorming.

There are lots of neat things Ruger could do, once they throw off the limits imposed under Mad Bill. He was a great designer, but not a good company manager.
Wonder how the company would've fared had Mr. Sturm not passed away early on?
