Thumbs down canadian cops at work

got this from another board. law enforcement in the new age.

Nut job apparently with 2 knives - look how they stop the threat (they pin him with a squad car!). They're actually running away from the guy. Don't blame em - if they'd shot him (which is what he deserved), the media would've been jumping up & down yelling foul. Uncomfortable moments there. Also, notice how they make him get down - right next to the knives he's dropped!

The use of the car is deadly force too -- this could have been solved with one bullet and no officers would have been put at risk -- any cop knows a man with a knife can travel 20 yards before they can get a gun out of the holster. This just to show the Canadian cops have no officer safety skills. Troy I am sorry you have these types protecting you -- they just gave you another mouth to feed on your tax dollars.

To be fair, Toronto's ERT tagged a guy right in the noggin awhile back when he had a knife.

Shaun you aint kidding about that. Awhile back i watched a show and they were seeing how fast a guy could close the distance from him to a cop and the time it took for an officer to draw his gun. I dont remember the specifics but it was something like at 20 feet apart a guy could run and jump the cop before the cop could get his gun out. I guess the holsters that law enforsement use are so secure so that a criminal cant easily grab the gun. The drawback is it isn't instant access for the cop either. A Winnipeg cop put a bullet in guy that was attacking him with a screwdriver. That cop is in a ton of trouble right now. The assailent was an indian, and now all these indian rights activists are thumping their chests. This is the problem now, the cops are afraid of defending themselves. What a F/U country i'm living in.

Troy a screwdriver can punch therough a vest just as easy and there is nothing wrong with the threat excuse at least here in the states.

Shaun, what does this say to any potential future law enforsement officers? Who would want to go out and do any good when the cost is so high? Dont do the right thing and get yourself killed or god knows how badly injured you may get. Do the right thing and rid the world of some human pollution and piss away your career that you worked so hard to get, and maybe get yourself locked up for it. While i respect cops completely, they deserve it for taking on a tough job. I really have trouble understanding why they would want a job like that when they get so little support from the public and government they are sworn to protect.

Troy I was that cop years ago who enjoyed the rush of the action and making the differences in peoples lives. In a way I am glad I left that part of my life behind as I know how bad the trouble can be, I know of at the least 6 IA reviews against me based on acceptable use of force to overcome a threat. In each case I was justified and that burned me on the issues. Definitley tells me that I am avoiding tons of court action now a days.

I just think of the troops overseas that are experiencing the same quarterbacking to thier following orders. We have tropps being tried and investogated for doing thier job and that is unacceptable. Either if its our troops or our cops we don't need them asking an attorney before they do anything they need to rely on thier directives and judgement to know they are following the regs'
