| DEA agent accidently fires Glock 40---how?
I posted this in the Glock forum but thought I might get some response here. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- I know nothing about Glocks. A friend of mine sent me a clip of a DEA agent giving a safety lecture and accidently discharging his Glock 40. Fortunately no one was injured, and there were a lot of children present. My question is, how did it happen? Thought some of you Glock guys could see the mistake. I thought he shut the slide, then pulled the trigger to prove it was empty. Then, BAM!! link: http://www.ogrish.com/archives/dea_...ar_09_2005.html |

As with any gun he failed to check the chamber and he also had his finger on the trigger. I doubt the Glock is to blame, just a case of an over confident person not paying attention. At least he did'nt point it at the crowd like feinstein did her AK.

yup, another one of those "accidental discharges" - I guess it happens to "professionals" too How hard is this ? Do not touch the trigger unless you are ready to fire. The correct way to ensure that a firearm is unloaded is to *visually* inspect it - only an excessively moronic individual would pull the trigger to demonstrate that. And these are the people entrusted to "protect" us. |

Another case of a gun that "Just went off!" Yeah, right . . . Case in point . . . moron checks gun, pulls magazine . . . "empty!" . . . Moron replaces magazine, releases slide . . . moron pulls trigger on "empty" gun, gun fires. Many gun guys throughout the net are laughing. Those kids sure weren't laughing when the moron's assistant goes to hand him the AR15 - they freaked! I don't blame them - it might be "empty" too . . . :insane: I sincerely hope the moron is now badgeless, maybe a nice quiet job in a carwash will keep him from endangering people.

when the police over here went from the S&W .38 revolvers to the 9mm glocks there where a lot of accidental discharges and legs and feet with holes in them because of the cops being used to 6 rounds would fire of their six and go to holster without checking, pushing the glock into the holster and finger on the trigger. Bang!

A Glock pistol, won't fire unless the trigger is pulled due to the fact that it has 3 safeties. First the trigger safety, it prevents the trigger from traveling back inside the trigger guard. Second is the drop safety, it prevents the striker from being released from the trigger bar. Third the firing pin safety or plunger, it prevents the firing pin from reaching the breach until the plunger is depresed. You can bang a glock like a hammer, drop it, kick it, throw it to the floor or walls and the only way it will fire is when the trigger is pulled by a finger or similar item inside the trigger guard. In my opinion is a very well thought mechanism and the kicker is all 3 safeties will disengage secuentialy when the trigger is pulled. This agent prooved that slight overconfidence or negligence can cause a fatality when handling a fiream. If someone is not prepared to accept the responsability of handling a firearm correctly, then shouldn't handle one for sure. Anyone can have an accident, but when demostrating the correct use of a firearm, it should be unloaded and the ammo segregated from the gun.

fingers on triggers usually cause them to go off.
