Sombody's playing a April fools joke
Questions from other buyers for this listing
Q: What a wonderful find, and the provenance is extraordinary. I'm looking forward to bidding on this holster to go with my 1862 Colt 1911, which is the long-lost (and little-known) prototype by J.M.B.'s father.
A: The value of that match-up would surely prove to be inestimable.
Q: Hysterical...... Will this fit my Revolutionary War Luger?
A: I am almost certain that it might.
Q: Thanks for clearing that up. I thought US "us" as opposed to "them". But I think you should check your history, Bucheimer was a Lt. Col. not a Major General.
A: I will consult my source on that.
Q: Now how did all that connect to a holster from 1918 ?
A: The connection may be a bit tenuous.
Q: can you explain how the US (United States) government model pistol of 1911, designed by John Browning, in 1906 was used in the civil war? I thought the civil war took place 1861 to 1864. This would have precluded John Browning's pistol by 42 years, and precluded the US's (United States) adoption to service by about 50 years. Did someone go back in time, and bring a .45 auto pistol with them? Or maybe the holster you speak of is the standard leather flap model common to world war one and two. Possibly you suffer from delusions of grandure. It is important to advertise your products correctly. I would give you $100 dollars for the holster, if you could have an expert on the 1911 substantiate your claims.
A: I am attempting to contact that expert, but I may not be able to reach him until after this auction ends on April 1st.
Q: Thank you for the amazing provenance for this truly "one of a kind" holster!
A: Thanks!
Q: 45 autos were not invented until 1911. this appears to be a post WW2 45 auto. Bucheimer is the manufacturer. Please correct me if I'm wrong
A: You are correct.
Q: I think somebody is playing a joke on you or you are displaying the wrong holster. By definition, a 1911 .45 auto is almost 50 years after the end of the Civil War. Buchheimer strated making holsters in the 1880s and made them for the US gov't in both World War I & II. What you are displaying is probably a WW II issue. TomV.
A: Thanks for the info.
Q: That holster dates from WWII (1940) or later. The 1911 auto pistol was not invented until 1911, 46 years after the American Civil War ended. The WWI holster is brown leather. Just a heads-up.
A: Thanks for the info.
Q: It is well worth the price just for the "story".
A: Thanks.
Q: when did they start making the colt 1911 auto. pistol for this holster.
A: 1911
Q: please explain how it is a ciil war era holster for a colt 1911, when the 1911 was not even made till "1911"and the war was over in 1880something?
A: It is rather difficult to explain.
