cats or dogs?

My humble opinion.....if they allow shooting cats, then they should also allow shooting dogs. Packs of roaming dogs ARE a major problem around here, but if you legalize shooting "mans best friend", man, are you going to hear some people screaming.

I myself was a cat breeder so several years (Maine Coon Cats) and still own 5 cats, and I would NEVER EVER allow them outside to roam free. Most breeders and owners of purebred cats also feel this way.

But please remember, if we shoot all the feral or simply "pet outdoor cats" we are eliminating natures number one way to keep rats and mice populations under control. and that does make a serious disease threat to us all. fleas borne on rats and mice killed 2/3rds of europe a few hundread years back...it could happen again today.

i live about a mile from a town that if you blinked while passing by, you'd miss it. suprisingly enough i dont have real trouble with any animals that aren't mine. a bear that happened along my front yard, i chased it down the road with my truck in the hopes of scaring it away. never seen yogi again, very good. i really believe that yogi wanted less to do with me than i wanted to do with him. LOL. a neighbors dog plays tag with one of my dogs. and some cat has made a game of it to get chased by my other dog. i got no problems with any of this. however if an animal of any kind came along and offered threat to anyone in the household, family or pets, i wouldn't hesitate for one moment to kill it if it was neccesary. lucky me, that hasn't had to happen. that in a nutshell is pretty much how i feel. law or not, if a danger exists, you have a responsibility to your family and property.

Feral animals

The very first gun I bought (as an adult) was a 12 gauge Mossberg 500, after a pack of dogs or coyotes attacked and mortally wounded our 12 year old beagle/redbone hound mix. Jumper belonged to my oldest son, Jordan, who was away at college. I had to call him from the animal hospital and tell him. He drove home (and I don't even want to think about how quick he covered those 100 miles), and we were with Jumper when they put the needle in him. Then we held each other and wept. I'm 6'1 & 230 pounds (then) and Jordan is almost as big, and the sight of the two grown bearded men weeping must have been a little scary to the vet people.
I wish I could have identified Jumper's killers, but we never saw any more evidence of them.
So, I don't have a lot of patience for feral animals, or for those who let them get that way. They cost my family the loss of one of our own.
I've got a picture of Jumper, but evidently I can't post attachments.

Yes, I agree. Yet, the distinction must be made between feral & domesticated pets...just my 2c. Your average domestic kitty is unlikely to cause serious damage to anything or anyone - a nuisance, probably, but it's not necessary to kill a pet for that.

that would have to be decided at the time gunnsb, what i am saying is that domesticated or not, if the animal poses a threat, then there could be a problem.

My sister owns a house that she doesn't live in and pack of feral cats took up residence in the back yard. She stopped by to check on the place and found the cats feeding on a wild turkey that the neighbors said had been seen in the neighborhood. The neighbors' daughter said the turkey was in the yard and one cat jumped off of the garage on it and the rest seemed to come from everywhere and killed it in just a few seconds.

toolman: In that case those cats have managed to bag one more wild turkey than I have. Maybe instead of a tree stand I should set up on a garage roof!

Don't forget to wear your whiskers and tail! I'm wondering if MEOW MIX is good turkey bait!
