Officer's Gun Falls From Pants, Shoots Man In Other Bathroom Stall

Officer's Gun Falls From Pants, Shoots Man In Other Bathroom Stall

POSTED: 9:56 am EDT April 21, 2005
UPDATED: 7:51 pm EDT April 21, 2005

SAN ANTONIO -- This is a story they'll be telling around the San Antonio Police Department for a long time.

A police spokesman says an off-duty officer was at a San Antonio auto auction house Wednesday when nature called.

Officer Craig Clancy strolled to the appropriate facility and was lowering his trousers when his pistol fell from his waistband. When Clancy fumbled for the falling firearm, it went off -- twice.

One of the bullets nicked a bit of floor tile into the leg of a man who was washing his hands nearby. That man was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Police internal affairs is investigating.

We need more smileys. I would have put one of laughter at your comment, gunssb, but there isn't one for that. I can always procure more if Jesse wants more.

Quite true. When that fails, pick it up by the trigger again!

I can't wait to see 1* comments regarding this one -- I still remember one of our deputies shooting himself in the hind quarters when he dropped his backup 22 beretta in the locker room. We gave him a bad time everytime we saw him.

I was working in the operating room of the hospital in Macon one night when they brought in one of the narcs who had shot himself in the leg by catching his falling .38. It went through both bones in his lower leg, besides the soft tissue damage.
Anybody ever see a movie or TV show where the gun goes off when somebody says "DROP THE GUN!" ? Since I've been a gun owner, that sort of thing occurs to me.
I also understand that there is a "Frisbee test" that the government requires for suppliers of the handguns used by the FBI & co. The gun has to get thrown so it lands on the right side and on the left side w/o breaking or going kaboom.
